Right Enough of this nonsense about which players we’ve borrowed of other teams It’s Freedom Festival time Scran in Head of Steam Look at the Moon in the Minster Watch the Rise parade Watch people stuck to the side of Hull College Listen to Jungle Brothers in Zeb Yard Whose with me brothers and sisters of culture? (not literally with me mind you...it would take too long to get served in HoS)
Bloody good night at Freedom Fest Bit disappointed that Kerb Edge don’t do the food anymore in Head of Steam, it wasn’t as good Didn’t make it into the Minster, but the moon’s there for a while The Rise parade was brilliant The light show complete with acrobats on the front of Hull College was very good Bud Sugar were excellent Jungle Brothers have still got it, although I’m not particularly a fan Bars & food stalls relatively quiet. Enjoy it tomorrow people
The Rise parade was just OK I thought to be fair........huge crowds down Trinity Street following one of the "Wicker Dykes" as we called them, down whitefriargate. Was not as good as the Giraffes last year, but incredible skill and engineering went into getting the puppets moving. The Daft Punk orchestra at Zebedees yard tonight looks good 21:30 to 22:30, sold out in London for their shows.
I enjoyed Rise more at the Queens Gardens end with the mock protests and flares and scrapping wicker ladies Looking forward to Daft Punk orchestra tonight
Last night the aussie acrobats in the tent were brilliant. The show on college good for awhile but then got a bit bored with it and a stiff neck from looking up. Wife wanted us support Bean of nothingness so went there for cake and coffee. Its a bit wacky in there. Spent time today around Humber st. Trinity sq. Queens Gdns.just watching chilling and drinking. Wife said it was like being holliday. Looking forward to daft punk and moon tonight.
Well that’s it I made it a full set and went back to Freedom Festival again today Moon in Minster is worth a visit if you’re in town (apparently 16000 people went into the Minster to see it yesterday!) Daft Punk orchestra last night were really good and Zeb Yard was heaving. Busiest I’ve seen it I wasn’t into Chiedu Oraka really, not my thing, but he seemed popular wiv da kids init Loads of interesting things to stumble across (like a dance thing on an empty Carousel) Carnival sounded ace today Some photo galleries / stories on modern day slavery were absolute heartbreaking I didn’t do the free food Feastival but walked past as it was getting set up and it looked brilliant, some nice little bits showcasing community orchards and allotments etc The ‘Smashed’ juggling was very funny (without me even being smashed!) Not everything perfect, but a bloody good weekend I must say
I suppose the BBC have been thinking a little bit with their programming tonight (see BBC 4 documentary thread). Given the genesis of the Freedom Festival ( William Wilberforce and all that), the 2 documentaries they are airing tonight (9 p.m. and 10 p.m) are in essence a sort of emancipation/liberation from the somewhat barbaric seafaring tradition of the City of Hull. Interesting juxtaposition methinks.
The Mummers were of similar ilk to Wicker Man...the fiddler with the somewhat receding hair is a pal of my missus.
Just got home after a great weekend. On top of what we had already done we watched the excellent jenga block act. Then the carnival which was only small but a great photo op. My favorite was the aussie acrobats show on Friday but also loved the atmosphere at daft punk. It was great to have a weekend in Hull not focused around football or visiting rellies.
