Whilst I unquestionably rate Maya ahead of Stephens as a CB - and for that matter, Bednarek ahead of Stephens too - having Stephens on the bench covers for two positions rather than one (I know that Maya has played RB before, but he's always looked horribly uncomfortable there). So I think I do agree with Stephens getting the position on the bench.

Ings looks great. It is the rest of them that seem poor. That is why we are playing Long - not the best player, but the best partner for the best player. Also, this wasn't my view. Do you not think that his persistant pressing and rushing the defence played a crucial part in helping us to play the majority of first half in Palace's half and dictate the play as well as being a decent out ball to relieve pressure?
The difference in the direction and momentum of the game, before and after Long went off, says a huge amount to me. As a striker, the guy is limited. But beggars can't be choosers.
It does to an extent, but that is at the expense of bringing other qualities to the team which I feel are needed more. Last season we were lucky, that may not be the case this one if we are in a similar position.
