Didn't think he offered enough, only made one or two decent crosses. Moura and Alli also worked hard but neither had an end product. The fact Winks was our MOTM and played about 6 minutes or so says everything about our performance.
Watford marshalled him well today. He was not allowed to get moving down the right, and was often closed down when stationary to prevent him picking a cross to make.
If only we had another option, I dunno... say someone like a Jack Grealish Thanks Levy, you tight arsed twat.
Yeah I wanted Jack, made no secret of that. Although Poch was massively naive today, Dembele shouldn't have played for 85 minutes, Winks should've been on after our goal.
Just re-read and saw that. Sorry, I disagree: thought he had a 'floating' game. Made too many poor decisions where it counted and (not that he should have been assigned) lost Deeney for their first.
Disagree about Watford being too strong. The crowd were pissed off that they weren't getting free kicks when we out muscled them. For me there were 5 problems. 1) We mentally shut off once we scored and stopped competing giving them the full initiative. 2) We wanted too many touches around their box and we moved the ball too slowly in the final third. 3) Too many players were off form...Eriksen was very poor imo as was Dembele and Davies. Kane was off the pace and Dele failed to impose himself. 4) No Lamela or Son to come on or start really weakens us and Loris would have been bollocking the defence when we started to rock after the hit the bar. 5) Dembele should have been subbed much earlier as should Davies. Both should have come off on the hour in my opinion. Winks and Rose would have posed new problems for them, helped keep possession and could of addex some speed to our play getting the ball forward. Watford deserved their win. We nee to learn the lessons, not panic and move on. coys
To be fair most of the performances were about as popular as finding a floater in the pan. They were all ****.
He didn't play great but I can always appreciate if a player gives it a go and I thought he did, thought he got into tackles and worked back and forth a fair amount, like I said he had no end product but that wasn't through lack of trying in my opinion. Compare that with Eriksen, who just didn't seem interested in playing today, nor was he getting stuck in, I can at least appreciate Alli was trying, or at least I thought so. And yeah, similar to what you say, with three three CBs on the pitch, Alli should not have been marking Deeney. We were an absolute shambles at the back today.
Had a family day today caught the last 20 minutes of the game and it sounded like Watford deserved to win I might be wrong cos I didn't see most of the game but a very dissapointing result. Oh well let's just batter the scousers instead
All jokes aside, we could've really done with him today. Or at the very least just brought Winks on much earlier. Dembele was done on 55 mins, really don't know what Poch saw to keep him on for 85, very poor decision from the gaffer.
Could've kicked that ball around till tomorrow lunchtime.. still would've of scored...even against Watford.... no disrespect to Watford.
You don't lose in them positions if you aspire to hit the summit. Poch tinkering too much Over thought can be detrimental, too.
Yeah agree. In fact I don't even have too much of an issue with tinkering - but at least rectify the mistakes as early as possible. Winks and Dier should've been on very early in the second half once it was clear Eriksen was having an Ozil and Dembele was ****ed.
It's difficult because we've so few fit players right now. Mousa Dembele shouldn't have played 85 minutes of football but Wanyama and Winks are not ready to start, Sissoko's injured, Dier looked tired on Monday and Rose is just a write off. We needed to make changes but the only options were Big Dave and Ben Davies, unless you're desperate enough to count Llorente? The team has had patches in all the games so far when we've just stalled and got away with it. We need Winksy and Big Vic back asap, as well as Lamela and Sissoko. They haven't played all summer and can do some of the running that others are struggling with and be more switched on. We can't keep going to the well with the players that made the latter stages of the WC.
No real issue with rotating the XI about at the moment - although I would've started Dier personally - but it's the failure to utilise the bench that irks me. Granted, being without Lamela and Son, our attacking options weren't amazing but there was still enough quality on the bench to help try and hold that 1-0 lead. Dier and Winks could've played 30-35 mins each. Poch showed against Fulham how you can utilise what you have on the bench, it's as if he forgot that today, making your first sub at 80 mins when 2-1 down is poor, especially when one or two players were playing **** or shattered long before that mark. Providing no injuries after these internationals, we should have a full squad to choose from in a couple weeks, hopefully our actual performances can improve, along with getting back to winning ways. I'd like to think today was just "one of those games", which thankfully we don't have too much of under Poch.
