I can only add my heart felt congratulations to Sonny and whoever in the club decided to release him for this tournament. Let's hope to see him back, fit and firing after the international break. That's one less issue for the press to beat us with.......for now.
Speaking after the win, South Korea’s captain said: ‘Tottenham have supported me so much and that means a lot to me. ‘I really want to say thank you to the coach and the fans of Spurs. They are so special.’ Read more: https://metro.co.uk/2018/09/01/son-...fter-winning-asian-games-7904199/?ito=cbshare Twitter: https://twitter.com/MetroUK | Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MetroUK/
Brilliant it is BUT why do the SK national team now want Sonny to play a couple of internationals instead of releasing him back to Spurs so he can rest up after playing a tournament ( which we didn't have to release him ) where he played every couple of days.
It effectively means he is in the under 23 squad (the Asian Games are an u23 tournament) and the full squad. Not right.
This will surely break the agreement made by Spurs in allowing the release for the Asian Games ..... 'Officials at the South Korean FA announced that Son would be made available (for the AG) on the condition that he was not included in squads for the two international friendlies in November or the first two group matches at the 2019 Asian Cup in January in the United Arab Emirates.' What games are he being required for?
Why are South Korea playing so many games and tournaments? That’s the World Cup, Asian Games and Asian Cup all in six months?
It's a couple of friendlies, too. In their defence, they do have a new manager in Paulo Bento, so he probably wants to meet everyone. Costa Rica and Chile in friendlies. It's September the 7th and 11th, so it's not against the agreement, which is for November.

The Asian games is an U23 tournament. Each team can pick three overage players, like the Olympics. Son was only there because Leverkusen refused to let him go four years ago when he was eligible and it's a great chance to reduce his military service.
Still something of a piss-take.... New Coach: 'I want to assess Son' Spurs: 'ever heard of YouTube?' Seriously though, that effectively adds at least 10 days to any possible return - and 2 more games to pick up an injury. According to FIFA regs, if the games are Friendlies and outside of the allotted dates (and these are I think) then clubs are not obliged to release players. Can't help thinking this will backfire on SK in the future for any other 'out of schedule' friendlies. The club's response will likely be 2 words, the 2nd of which will be 'off'.
I don't think that they are out of schedule, as everyone else has games too. The European sides have this new Nations League ****e, but non-European countries all have friendlies.
