Saints fan here, obviously in peace.

Now that the transfer window has firmly shut, are any of you worried that there was a real lack of transfer activity by Pompey and that following the sale of Nugent no reallly suitable replacement(s) were signed?

Does your squad now lack the depth necessary to last until the next transfer window, and is this a lack of ambition on the part of Mr. Lampitt, lack of Managerial experience by Mr. Cotterill, too strict a wages policy, or simply just bad luck?

What are your thoughts, or concerns for the coming months of the season?

    Ok deep breath aaannnddd;

Jason Pearce, Stephen Henderson, Greg Halford, David Norris, Marko Futacs, Benjani, Luke Varney, Erik Husseklepp and Jed Wallace were all brought in. So far, Jason Pearce is class and definatly one of the best CB in the league, Greg Halford is very good at the back also, David Norris has a brilliant engine and will chip in with a few goals, Luke Varney has a good left foot and is suprisingley good in the air for a small lad, Benjani scored 12 goals in the 2007/2008 season before we sold him, Erik Husselklepp tormented the Bristol defence when he came on, Jed wallace was wanted by newcastle and everyone at the training ground has been very impressed with Marko Futacs. Not to impressed with Henderson yet but he's got plenty of time to change my mind.

So to summerise, we have depth in our squad, we do have a strictish wage structure thanks to the CVA which i'm genuinly happy about and the only bad luck we've had is smacking the woodwork many times this season already. Once against Brighton which would have got us a point, once away to bristol which would have gave us 3 and twice against Baaaadif wich would have put us 2 nil ahead before they scored.

PLAY UP POMPEY POmPEY PLAY UP

Being in a CVA means there are extremely tight financial constraints on the club; a situation that will be reminiscent to you as a Saints fan. Every inward transfer of personnel has to be rattified by the Football League. Lack of ambition and disappointment with the squad strengthening will be limited to those amongst our fans [and I'm sure there were one or two] who had the impression that exiting administration with a CVA was like waving a magic wand at the financial plight that almost brought Portsmouth FC to its knees.
The more blindly optimistic of us will be hoping for a push towards the playoffs, but I am of the contingent that feel the new board and management [as well as the players of course] will have done a satisfactory job if we complete the CVA term without dropping in to League One.
With the financial limitations hanging round Steve Cotterill's neck like a yoke, he is, in my opinion, doing the right thing in trying to build and improve the squad into one that can survive the riggours of a forty-six game Championship season. With his first choice XI fit, I believe we have a team on the pitch that can compete with most, if not all the opposition. Problems may occur though if injuries and suspensions affect too many of these players at the same time. Unfortunately, for a squad in our position, a quality back-up of players who can fill the void left by such gaps is a luxury we can't simply whistle up out of thin air.
All things considered I feel [injuries and suspensions allowing] we will finish mid table; a target that I most certainly do not see as lacking ambition - once the blue tinted specs have been removed!

  5. RLGB,
Slightly lacking in originality and I don't hold much truck with plaigiarism.

The Saints board seems to be racked by bickering, internecine strife and civil war today. I'm hoping you Pompey peeps will give me shelter until it all calms down... I promise to behave and I make a wicked cup of tea :)

Sorry, I think I might have missed something here.

RLGB - How can you call for minging to be banned on your forum for wumming and then go and copy, near enough word for word, his thread and post it over here?

You might say it is because "he did it first" - but can I please remind you of the modertators thread at the top of both ours and your forums please.....

    tut tut.....

I'm goig to be the bigger person here. I apologise for copying and pasting Mingins cr@p on your board too.

I hope you can understand how frustrating he is when he posts rubbish on our board.

I have no problems with Pompey fans, only Mingin.

I apologies and I would like this thread to be closed please.
