The early rounds is what I was referring to about squad depth. To be fair Burnley did go looking to boost the squad but they're still having to start the season early, meaning less recovery time for the players, and to play 2 games a week when the season starts. It's an unnecessary distraction in a league that's very unforgiving on slow starters. Great point about their style of play as well. That needs more recovery time and the fixture list just doesn't allow for that.
Exactly what happened to Saints; narrowly failed to get out of the group stages of the Europa, saw a dip in results in the PL, still finished 8th, sacked the ****ing manager. The manager who also got us to Wembley, that is.
Spurs and Liverpool have been able to use it as a springboard to better things, but they both had more resources to begin with than those other clubs. Resources means money, btw
I didn't say don't aspire to it mate. I was on about having the resources to compete in it whilst not risking your status in the PL to any real degree. If and when we return to the PL I'd want us to aim for more, like Europe. That's all pie in the sky I know, but I wouldn't want us achieving that without being able to complete in the PL at the same time.
Yeah but if you get there then you have to go for it otherwise what was the ****ing point? You don't know when it's gonna come around again for clubs like us... I'd have been ****ing livid if we had thrown it away ala West Ham... going out to the Israelis on away goals still hurts like **** now tbh.
I totally agree with all of that TLL. I'd be just as pissed off if we got there and cheaply threw it away. When you got there it doesn't sound like you guys built up the squad to deal with the extra pressures. I might be wrong about it but if your league position suffered because of the European games it does suggest a squad resource or depth problem. In the first instance anyway.
We dropped two places but seeing as that was from 6th anyway it's hardly bad... all while reaching a cup final too. Like Archers said... then we sacked the ****ing manager
I don't believe so... you might be referring to when Nicola Cortese left and then Poch followed a few months later in 2014.
Would love a season in the Europa. Was too young for our last European campaign! The problem for the smaller clubs is that if any of us do make it to Europe, the bigger clubs come sniffing around the best players, so not only do they have to strengthen to deal with the extra games, but also replacing any players they've lost!
Maureen is off his snack. Hyper waking along in his hotel room alone I wish he'd manage a Stoke or someone without a fortune to buy players, to see if he is actually any good
On TalkSport tonight, Goughy described Mourhino as the "new Wenger! " And not in a good way! He was using this to describe the fact that Mourhino used to be good, but now he's ****e. I would imagine that @Matth_2014 and @PISKIE will both be fuming, but for very different reasons, yeah?
Maureen rang room service in his hotel for a masseuse, but the lady they sent up never took the ego module in backrub college
sshhhhh 3, 3, 3! respect respect respect Fergie must have broke his bollocks laughing at Maureen's "3" boasts
