Hope so , but he only does those things in the games he looks interested . Remember games such as Bolton and Brum where he was unplayable , but those games stick out so much cos they were few and far between . Wilson showed us when he came you can do that and work hard consistently

I'd be happy with just a new owner.

The rancid atmosphere around the club is why we're ****, not because of the players.

Not sure he's enough to be the difference between relegation and not on his own , he wouldn't have kept us up last year and we had a stronger team . He might be difference between relegation with a humiliating points tally and relegation with a respectable points tally

We are poor but Rotherham and Sheff Wed are worse from what I've seen just need one more.

Probably means we've bid on 70 or so players based on last seasons goals against. More than likely bid on our own players - the ones that scored o.g.s :emoticon-0100-smile

I think we require at least three players. Call it the spine or the backbone of a side but I can’t see that in the current crop. A new hard centre half, a leader in midfield and a proper centre forward would be great. I do think we could slot what we have around that spine and survive. That would be a result this year. I don’t expect to avoid a drop without these players.

    I’d probably agree.

I’d even take Cattermole at this stage.

If we did get Elphick, Cattermole (or similar) and Cameron Jerome (or similar) I’d be fairly happy.

Cattermole scored twice for Sunderland last weekend, so probably going nowhere.

Happy? I imagine most supporters would be absolutely ecstatic if we got a new owner!

Has anyone read the miracle of castel di sangro by Joe McGinniss?

I was lent it by my mate who I go to games with (not currently of course). It took me two holidays over two years to read it (my fault not the book).

Here's the thing. As I got back into it on my recent holiday (and managed to finish it this time), I was struck by the similarities between them and us.

Some hope to achieve great things, a **** owner who doesn't want to spend money/sign players, (although you wouldn't argue with their owner). Penny pinching. A manager who consistently pick/play their 'favourites' rather than the better player. The lives of the players inside and outside of their 'day job'.

Seriously it is worth a read if you haven't already, even though it is 20 odd years old. You have to put up with the fact the author is an American journalist so at times he descends into explaining the rules of the game. He spent a season 'living' with the club by way of research.

Captain Ahab can't be expected to concentrate on recruitment whilst he's counting his money.
