The campaign is by match goers not plastics and overseas watchers.

70% of match goers want it.

The Emirates is limited to 60,000 capacity by Islington council. So we'd have to go for 1:1 ratio if it gets implemented.

Your lot have already built it, in the large home end and the away section, which could raise some interesting questions.

We've got the ability to convert the existing seating, IIRC.
The single tier stand would be great with standing and reasonable prices, but the latter's definitely lacking at the moment.

No. You’ve fitted the rails already and warned STH’s in the section concerned that it’ll be a standing area if the law changes. But the fact that there’s rails in situ means it’ll just happen anyway.

Yeah, it looks like you're right:
    https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/ne...as-offer-new-concept-in-safe-standing-debate/

Didn't realise that they'd already included it.
It's a fairly small section of the stands, so I guess they're going to test it out.
Seems odd to have partial sections of the stand set up like that, though.

I wish we had the same. I fear there will be a lot of resistance from some of our STH's if we announced that we were going to turn over the lower tier at each end behind the goal to safe standing.

One way around it would be to announce the areas that would become safe standing and then offer STH's the chance to swap 'seats' if they want. Hopefully there would be enough people tucked away up in the upper tiers who'd want to stand behind the goals, whilst those who want to sit could be encouraged to take up the seats of those who vacate them <ok>

    Good for them.

However that doesn't change the fact that most football fans probably don't give a **** because most fans don't go to games.

I also bet more people on these fora don't go to premier league games regularly than do.

Match goers are a minority. Important for the general spectacle, but still a minority.

Loads of your lower tier ST’s are in the hands of touts who flog them to Japanese tourists mate, you’ve not no ****ing chance <laugh>

Joking aside, yours is one of the few grounds that could accommodate it imo, as the space in between the seat rows is generous and would likely meet the requirements.

I couldn’t give a ****e about the opinion of non match goers, it’s none of their business, and thus they should have zero input and not be consulted.

You have to be an actual mong to not want it. Doesn’t mean you have to want to sit there yourself. Obviously this applies to Ginge.

I don't think you even necessarily need to go to games to want to see safe standing introduced. Part of it is about improving the overall atmosphere of the grounds, which then generally translates onto the pitch.

I used to be a regular at Highbury, on the old North Bank terrace. Now days though, I probably only make 1 or 2 games per year due to family, work and distance. So I'd place myself in that bracket of fans who don't (regularly) attend, but most definitely give a **** <ok>

I know, I've sat next to them <grr>

The seating at the Emirates is pretty plush (probably a bit too comfy to be honest) and there's plenty of room to accommodate safe standing. Also there are tons of exits too, so it would in theory, be a fairly straight forward retro fit.

If you go occasionally then you’re still match goer.

He was referring to the hoardes who have never and will never attend a match.

I still think it would improve the game, even for non match going fans.

First time I went I was amazed how fancy the seats were in the away end.

It's true. One of the biggest mistakes we made when we allocated ST's was splitting everybody up who used to stand (then sit) on the North Bank and clock end. Also there was a huge nod to corporate facilities. We should have created a singing area for the die hards and made it clear that this area will be raucous and loud. I've been at the Emirates and been asked to sit down, stop swearing and stop shouting FFS <laugh>

I can understand that if you've got young kids, then you don't want to be sitting next to fans (like me) who are swearing and shouting. But what we had right at Highbury i.e. North Bank, Clock End, Family Enclosure/Junior Gunners, and then general seating in the stands, worked well. All of that got thrown up in the air and landed in a random pile when we moved to the Emirates.

My hope would be that a dedicated standing area would bring back some of the old atmosphere from the Terraces <ok>

will it be possible to do a conga involving the whole section? If not then I'm only half sold on it.
