I envy you that trip Yorkie. I've long been a great fan of Romani and Balkan folk music - particularly from Hungary. My wife's dad was a violin maker who worked closely with Hungarian colleagues and we still have connections to Budapest and Szeged, which we unfortunately have allowed to sleep for too long.
I discovered that computer man does open his shop on a Monday, but not this Monday. He doesn't open on a Wednesday morning, but does after he has had his lunch. Never sure how to keep up with these small traders. On the way back, about two miles from home the road was wet from rain. Arrive back here and there hasn't been a drop. My harvest is doing well, but that is because of the stored water. When that is finished it will be in trouble.
Just finished watching the French news where I learnt that tourists have flocked to the country in record numbers. The hotels, restaurants, theme parks, museums and camps sites are all purring with pleasure. It seems that just about every region has seen this growth which is good, as every overnight stay incurs a tourist tax. It is a tiny amount, often less than a €1 per person, so no one feels ripped off. The money raised goes to help pay for local services, which all helps to keep my council tax to a very low level.
Morning all. Blue skies again with the temperature back into the 30°C 's . Maybe storms will arrive overnight, we have a yellow warning, and the next department, that we are very close to, has an orange one. Mme is off to her knit and natter group this afternoon, where they have a mixture of French and English ladies. As far as I can see the main attraction is the sharing of cake and the recipes for them. Although there are plenty of English living in the area, there are no exclusive clubs or meetings for them. It is a well integrated population, with help available purely on a personal level.
I came across an article saying that go out to dinner of an evening to some of the more expensive restaurants in London and you will have a maximum of 90 minutes at the table no matter how much you spend. Such a thing would be unthinkable here, in fact you would might be lucky to reach the cheese board by then. A long leisurely meal with friends is a huge pleasure in life, and if we found a time limit in force that restaurant would soon be empty.
Morning all. September looms and that for many here is start of the celebrations, national days, saint days and parties until Xmas comes.
Well Norwich still lead Cardiff 0-1 If you've dozed off Dave you could be in for a big surprise in the morning. Rain in Spain tomorrow. Probably mainly on the plain And the Canaries are singing now 0-2 And now 3!!!!! Off to bed but time for more goals for the canaries.
Morning all. Dark clouds overhead, but still no rain. Yesterday afternoon the temperature reached 38°C which made it too hot to do anything. Much cooler at present so better get started on some of my tasks.
OK you lovely people, I'm off to bed! Night all Night H Off to Sunderland early tomorrow, my B&B allegedly has wifi.
