A word on Gomez, he's been brilliant and has had some tough games against Zaha (Pace) and Murray (clever, good in the air) stood up to both tests well and is great on the ball as well. Lovren isn't walking back into the team at this point.
He is who he is we will just have to live with that. Difference is with Karius you still panicked even though he would have booted it up the field. It is interesting that the media in the UK didn't pick up that Ter Stegen did the exact same chip a week before so it is not like it's not been attempted before. I liken how he plays to how you describe Mane...instinct
The good thing about Gomez is he can only get better. It is easy to forget he is only 21 yrs. He will get better with games and when you see him, TAA and other youngsters get a chance means we will be in the front line when trying to sign up the best youth players due to us not being afraid to throw them in.
and risk? should easily have been robbed and open goal. result 1 point and instead of saving 2 with a vital save he costs 2. Its a fine line between hero and villain. He should concentrate on delivering what his manager clearly wants "not too cool"
I also agree, his pace is crucial. the next challenge is a big CF who won't stand near VVD all game. I hope klopp keeps playing him.
Where did I say that? What is backward about knowing not to piss about in dangerous areas? Unnecessary risks will catch you out. Get caught out too often and people will turn against you. A really clever player knows when to get rid and when the risk to reward ratio is acceptable. So should a clever fan, btw. Imo, VvD has this balance right. It remains to be seen whether Alisson has. Anyway, I'm pretty sure Klopp will be having a quiet word, even though he supports him in public. He knows how to manage players.
Interesting you say so as he has been targeted as the weak link in all 3 games and it is by virtue of teams avoiding VVD that he will fast track his experience and become as good as VVD hopefully https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/virgil-van-dijk-making-life-15079684
There's a risk in hoofing. Remember when Karius did a pretty decent punch but then Spurs just smashed it back in with a screamer? Based on Alisson's position on the pitch (nowhere near his goal) anything other than a red shirt invites a speculative shot at open goal. Klopp is playing to the other managers, basically saying "oh no we have a rogue keeper, would be such a shame if our opponents all pushed up the pitch 10 metres trying to press him, hint hint"
I hope Mane has got his bad game out of the way, I'm shocked that he lasted that long Vs BHA he was terrible. 3 points in the bag though so we'll excuse the off day for a few players.
Interesting that, I noticed myself that he had stood up to the challenges well but hadn't thought about teams targeting him. As much as Lovren has improved I've never been convinced that it was the right partnership but with Gomez and VVD it seems right and they work together well.
Lovren is not a bad defender. He has had the misfortune of deputizing at LCB where he has never been comfortable at all. All his best performances have been at RCB. If you intend to play a high line then he is not your man however in games where we are under pressure he shines. Gomez has pace to burn and that should get him through the moments when he is beaten by his man. All in all I like the personnel problems that we have. Still don't understand how VVD can win all his duels but we cannot find his head at corners and set pieces. Lovren is actually our most dangerous CB at set pieces.
you mean the open hands slap down into the middle.of the pitch.... row z never had not never will have a risk of conceding. you simply reset and go again. oh and no klopp isn't playing games he is being honest. one of his best traits.
Very big donkey of a striker will target gomez over going near VVD. he has to stand up to it and get it right. Gomez has the pace to deal with things. At cb he is doing slightly different positional role so that weakness over the back of him is largely not there.
We don't take good corners. we have too many guys slinging them in but most of all we don't have too many options so opponents just block his runs. If the VAR system was in place and refs too attitude they did in world cup VVD would be a pen winning machine
Disagreeing with the lot of you. I loved his little flick over knockaert, was brilliant and one of highlights of the game. Yeah at some point he’ll prob get caught out but surprise him if his natural instinct and you lose half the player. It’s like saying to VVD to stop being so laid back... just because they’re defenders and keepers doesn’t mean they can’t do things when time is right. Allison has done that once, when it was needed. He saw it as little risk, little dink, keep the ball and take man out of the game. Against Brighton might not have mattered but against someone like city maybe, you take on our the game like that and suddenly you have more space because you’ve broken through that first line of the press. Its not like hes done this every game btw, it’s a one off so far and he did it when he felt was necessary. Prob best keeper we’ve had in years and years, let’s not slaughter him for retaining possession so calmly and coolly
Remember when Ederson csme rushing our and looking to hoof it up the pitch and kicked it to Mo to score? Bit more composure and could have just found a team mate and started a city attack
Since when is row Z the same as giving it back to the opposition, in play? If Alisson continues to get away with it then I'll accept I was wrong. If he ****s up and we drop points will you concede? However, I'm confident Klopp will get him out of show-boating anyway.
