Anyone else feel the coverage was part of that problem? We barely saw any of Bottas scything through, Sainz pass Vandoorne, no comments on KMag's excellent start. It wasn't riveting, but stuff happened.
That’s a good point, to be fair I can’t remember what was shown. Might as well given us a close up of the black top.
yeah, Ferrari have done a great job (did they bring any updates to the car other than the Engine upgrade?). I'd say that the Ferrari is now the car to beat. Kimi gets a bit of stick for not being a front runner, but I wonder if their improvement is partly down to his feedback and that is why he's getting new contracts.
Hamilton fans will be disappointed, Vettel (or Ferrari) fans will be cheering. Either way, this is showing signs of a tight competition even if the race wasn't. I would never have typed Hamilton (or Mercedes) fans. I guess there must be some Mercedes fans but doesn't evoke the the same passion. I would even suggest the balance might be tipping towards Ferrari and Vettel unless Vettel panics.
I have to say that the sky commentary was at best vacuous today. all weekend the Ferrari has been ahead. We got treated to a) hamilton is quickest b) did vettel illegally pass. c) will hamilton just blast by here on the restart. d) this is just the lull guys e) maybe vettel will pit first and hamilton will be able to react to their tyre choice (at least brundle explained how clearly softs were the way to go and both cars were going to do it. f) vettel comes out in front. oh hamilton was unlucky he caught verstapoen so fast. (oddest comment of day) g) hamilton passes a vastly inferior car on fresh tyres so automatically he will sail past vettel. h) vettel.puts 0.9 second in hamilton in one sector..... oh.... hamilton is settling for 2nd as a good result here. i) brief hope as bottas told.something about tricks.. with about 40km to go... at this points hamilton is 6 seconds back. j) talk turns to saving engine for rest of year. like.... hang on.. from the first practice Lewis was in trouble here. rain for 5 mins meant he timed his run perfectly and took pole but the Ferrari always had the legs. why do sky have to be so brazenly one sided? I'm not a vettel fan tbh.. he's a bit of an asshole.and every time it rains Lewis spanks him but just call it down the middle eh? anyway monza.. Mercedes should be in trouble. Singapore... not so sure. what I do know is any more big mistakes from Ferrari or mercedes and this championship could well be over. ij many ways it has swung back and forth with developments but i just feel vettel has made more mistakes.
I have said it many many times but Crofty is simply not fit for commentary, and Hill and Herbert are atrociously biased as pundits (as is that horrible Rachel Brooke’s, who il never forget belittling Fernando Alonsos talents in one interview). Sky F1 has the money and resource to be absolutely amazing. Sadly they just haven’t a clue how to put together a brilliant show. That said, there isn’t much to shout about since we introduced the hybrid era.
I view it as home town commentary where the assumption is it's hamilton 1 2 and 3. They barely break wind about McLaren at this point and Williams don't even exist. I don't mind Herbert. I think they should keep the fanboy stuff to the preshow where it belongs and call the races down the middle. Tbh I think while sky might have the resources thry still give it for free so dont have unlimited resources and they are still at the tender mercies of local tv feeds. Sky should be giving far more detail as it is available, but they perhaps feel only nerds want it and they should just go to Lewis watch as the staple. I wouldn't mind but I'd rather stick vettels finger up his own hole than watch him win most of the time.
