Good signing. Good passer, works hard and can score a few goals. Different players obviously but 12 mill on Meireles compared to 40 mill on Modric is a complete no brainer. Surpised Liverpool let him go to be honest but im sure i read somewhere that he had a contract dispute where he was apparantly promised a pay rise but it never came.
He handed in a transfer request. John Henry has stated that anyone who doesn't want to play for Liverpool can leave the club, although you are correct with the contract issue - I think Hicks & Gillette allowed a stipulation for a massive pay rise after the first year as they knew they wouldn't own the club anymore. To be honest most Liverpool fans aren't too bothered about the deal as we already have players who can play in his position, this wasn't the case when Torres left as the Suarez deal hadn't been finalised (so it could have fallen through) thus leaving us with just N'gog and try as we might, N'gog could have never of filled Torres' boots... and then there was the fact that he was badge kissing and saying how he'd never leave only 2 weeks previous to handing in his transfer request... on saying this Raul said he wanted to commit his long term future to Liverpool only last may
Meireles is a good player, but not a great one, certainly not as classy as Modric.I have no problem with the player leavin cos hes not that good, its just he left it so late we couldnt replace him. With no european footy we should be ok anyway I would say I wish him luck, but I wouldnt be tellin the truth
