How confident are you in tim krul ??

I agree with the many comments that he is not the shadow of the goalkeeper he used to be but alot of you may not know that each year when he played in the premiership, when he was at the top of his game, he was always voted the best 18th to 20th keeper in the prem. So he has always been an average keeper.

Keepers get protected by the refs in the prem, and when keepers have dropped into the championship, most have struggled because its alot more physical. When you look at Tim Krul, physically he just does not look up to the challenge and i fear he is out of his depth. I am sorry to say this, but expect more mistakes from Tim and expect him to get bullied by the opposing team because he has no presence.

    he has to go!

Totally agree 71.Looks light weight and his poor efforts to the first and second goals were school boy errors.

Considering that he had no pre-season games, I'm willing to give him more time before judging.

In which case, it was an error of judgement to play him before he was ready.

Some truth in that, Gandy, but Matthews failed to take his chance and McGovern was the only alternative. Whatever keeper we brought in would have been in a difficult situation. McGovern will get another chance tonight though.

Only if you think McGovern is less of a risk than Krul.

The problem for me was Matthews. Clearly DF liked some of what he saw, but he wasn't yet the type of keeper that fitted into DF's playing philosophy. I think DF initially thought he could develop Matthews into the type of keeper he wanted. Unfortunately for what ever reason having tried Matthews in pre season he either changed his mind and decided either Matthew's didn't have the necessary skill set or motivation, or he couldn't develop him quick enough for the club and Matthews didn't want another loan. Alternatively it could be that Matthews didn't want to be the type of keeper DF wanted, thought he'd done enough to be first team keeper, didn't want to put in the necessary work / fight for his place or just got a better / easier offer.

I don't think that at all, but it was all a bit hurried in the end regarding Matthews. Seemed we learned little from pre-season, or at least, not soon enough.

I have to admit I was a bit cautious when he arrived, given that he had played second fiddle in the premier league to two lower Teams and they were happy to let him go. I am however hopeful that with continued playing time he might rediscover his Newcastle form!

Regarding Matthews let be realistic, he is still playing second fiddle at Bolton to Ben Alnwick.
