Same answer unless there is a major fallout with the board. He needs to improve his CV before he just walks. On paper he has at his disposal a pretty reasonable squad and gradually, if painful for us at times, the small improvements are beginning to show fruit. For him though he needs now to show that he can get some real and decent performances over a longish period to satisfy any potential suitor in the future. Personally I think he is as committed as anyone since the much lamented Nigel!!

Yeah, agree with most of that.

I’m beginning to think we’re cursed though; anyone got a number for that witch who lifted the last one?

We lost. I’m gutted. It’s clear that the ref / the players / the manager / the board (delete as applicable) are wholly to blame. However I don’t want to sack anyone.

    Some of us march on!

I keep hearing we have a decent squad (i try to convince myself too) but is it really any good? Third manager having a go with them now and struggling albeit early days.

When i watch other teams e.g. Wolves today i do not see inferior players to ours at all.

I agree, it’s quite scary how far we have fallen. We used to be the most technically gifted side outside the top 4. But we are nowhere near now.
Watching Brighton just now, I struggle to see which of our team gets into even their side. Bertrand, probably.

Thoroughly fed up tonight but still believe we can start to get results. Just looking at fixture list though no idea when and against who. I don’t get criticisms of Hughes at this stage. He has an average squad with lots of options without anyone really knowing what’s the best combination and he’s tinkering trying to find it. He’s definitely trying to be more positive though. Did anyone like me think Ings wasn’t quite right today? He was a pale imitation of the player who came on against Burnley. I think he may have taken a knock early on. If he’d been buzzing around on his game I think we may have won quite comfortably. I, like others have no idea how their winner went in. Really annoying people in front of me were leaving (idiots) so all I saw was Maguire hitting a week daisy cutter and then looking in disbelief as it rolled into the net. Couple of massive games coming up against Brighton. The second of which we have to win.

I know it's really early but two losses and a draw from what most of us saw as a comfortable start to the season is pretty grim.
We need to pick up points asap or it's going to another deppresing dog fight.
Harder teams to face and we have little to show for it.

Ings has a bad blister on his foot according to Sparky’s interview on Radio Solent today post match. I’m with you, he’a got a challenge with this squad as to which ones play together best, our time will come but it’s going to be a nervy few months.

My take is, our defence is useless so we have to focus on finding the right attacking combination. We have not found it yet and for sure in any combination i can think up Gabb is not forth choice.

I thought Long was very good. Both wingers played well. Individually, I thought all the defenders were good... Why can't we win at foot the ball???

Football can be a very cruel game. Though everyone had a good first 45 minutes but we backed off after the equaliser and simply ran out of ideas. The pessimists will say that we are just picking up from last season but I saw a resurgent Redmod and a flawless Lemina today which encourages me. A walk over the bridge has convinced me that this is a fluke result and we are still world beaters. We just need a break.

Bloody typical that on the day Mario turns up, we're let down by stupid lapses. Hope he can be bothered again next week. Palace will be a tough nut to crack.

Hughes pretty much picked the XI I wanted. His subs were largely in line for what I called for. I absolutely aim no criticism at him. Although selecting Davis on the bench (alongside JWP, Romeu and Armstrong) rather than Gabbi did confuse me. An overload of not particularly quick midfielders.

(I'm not a fan of Austin starting, he's just not mobile enough for me. Romeu has been too poor for too long, so could hardly argue against being left. I have more hope in Hoedt as Vestergaard's partner, than any of the other CBs. So yes, the XI today pleased me. And, at least for the first 45 minutes, we really backed it up. Had Ings not had his blisters, and instead been at the same level as the other players, I'm confident we'd have scored long before Bertrand did. Having seen that first half, I am so much more confident suddenly than over the past two years. But we need to back it up regularly - and, ultimately, start putting points on the board.)
