Naw. You realize this is a somewhat unique U.K. mentality? Most of the rest of the world doesn’t care about diving, at least in the box..

I see somebody else has mentioned Saints mental fragility. Controlling the game, playing some half decent football then "WHALLOP" it all goes to pieces.
Defensively we look vulnerable and in attack we look handicapped by players simply not good enough. Long a striker who doesn't score - what happened to him in the 2nd half? Cedric a wing back that can't cross - looked frail in defence and awful in attack( his shot from 40 yards when recycling the ball and getting a cross in summed his day up ) Austin is as mobile as HGV with three wheels ( I actually laughed watching him trying to block Maguires shot for the goal, he looked like he was running in quick sand! ) Hoedt dives in at every opportunity and think disaster is just around the corner when the ball comes in his general direction. Don't get me wrong there are some bright things Lemina. all game, and Redmond and Ings before the equalizer went in but think these players get their spirits crushed in this particularly average side.
ps PEH What was he thinking or not thinking for his dive? Some of the reaction on this forum about his red card was hilarious, come on guys try and be a a little sensible.....a dive is a dive you can't defend that! The ref wasn't a bellend he made completely the right decision.
Any way who's for Marky Sparky walking away before Christmas??

Clearly MH has the current responsibility of the side he picks, however my view has never been that he turned things round to face this season as one which would end up higher than 10th etc. He found a way last season to get just enough out of an empty tank to crawl across the line! Now new players, different formations are going to be the norm until a more settled rhythm is found.

Yeah, I see your point... but it’s a bit tricky.

It’s only one game and **** happens. We did look decent for 60 minutes.

OTOH, this game played out like so many did last season. So can we really say this was just bad luck?

People act like we’re just **** the whole time under Pellegrino, but that was only true maybe towards the very end. We often played decent to start games unde MP2. We lost a massive number of points in the second half last season.

We can’t just automatically turn the page just because of new manager/season.

Vestergaard and Ings look good. So far that seems like an improvement in two crucial areas and if so, that should be enough to keep us up. But I think we are still pretty bad and the margin is thin.

I will say one thing - as gutted as I am that we lost and the way we lost, I am even more gutted that a fellow Saints fan is actually defending blatant cheating. Sickening.

Well that was a thoroughly ****ing enjoyable afternoon.

The referee’s a ****er, even if PEH did dive - there was contact, so what happened to “he’s entitled to go down”?

How in the name of arse did Maguire’s goal go in?

What the **** is going on?

    Bollocks

Ah well. Cheer up Brian, worse things happen at sea

We need to sign a referee and quick. All successful teams bring their own referee.

It really wasn't just the end of the season. Even in the early games we won (palace & WHU), we were highly fortunate. It took months to bottom out our confidence, and I think its going to take a fair bit of time to pick it back up. We have new players but same old problems, and that's not healthy.
But, three games in, not sure why people are ****ing the bed already.

Perhaps I worded that incorrectly, what I meant to say was who thinks Sparky walks away of his own accord before Christmas?

There was zero contact from what I could see; went to 'trip' over the Leicester player's foot, and it wasn't there.

it was 50/50 on the first contact, he might have got his penalty. Alot of players would have gone down on first contact and got the penalty.

Was I the only one that saw Maguire trip Austin when through on goal just before the sending off. Looked like a clear red from the Itchen stand

Personally I've never been bothered by diving, but the rules are the rules and that was a dive so he deserved a yellow. I'm not bothered he attempted it as another day that might come off, was pretty stupid when already on a yellow though. We were pretty good for spells, just can't defend. You can tell the team as a whole have very little confidence and with such a poor back line that is going to lead to us leaking goals, need something that will sort their confidence out sooner rather than later.

Yep, and then Morgan clattered Long when second to the ball.

None of this matters now though.
