    Not telling Syd.

I will say that yesterday drove me to smoking and drinking in a pretty hardcore manner, but i've woken hangover free and that is a miracle.

    I'm ITK on that.

Not bad at all Sess - and apparently only about 120 of those games he's been played as an out and out striker - the rest he's been on the wing or in the 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation on the left. Pretty good stats all in all

A lot of those games were coming on as sub too.

Cest, I don't think those players you mention were available for us, in simple terms they did not want to come to the North East, or fit into our wage structure.

I think Brucies biggest problem has been getting the big names to come here. Players are available but not necessarily available to come to the north east.

More ultra pessimism from the self styled prophet of doom and gloom.
Cest if you know so much and it's all so clear what SB should do, why don't you just find a club and be a Premier league manager yourself ?

    The negative philosophy

"Where there is hope, let there be dispair".

That just about sums up why some players are perhaps reluctant to come here...We are getting a growing reputation within the game for displaying this attitude.

I'm convinced as long as Bruce is in the job some will find fault.
Cest talks like he is privy to inside information. He's not as his Defoe at the AOL thread demonstrated superbly.
We all just interpret gossip and speculation in any way we can to suit our particular argument.
The facts only emerge with the passage of time.
Gyan didn't leave, we bolstered our attack and maybe just maybe, Sess will go on to fill the left wing slot.
All in all a good days work by Bruce which at one point (according to the gossip) looked very bleak indeed.

Has anyone actually looked at how much (or lack of) Ellis Short has actually put in to the club since taking over from the Drumaville guys ?.

I bet it's not a lot as Brucie has pretty much broke even, if not made a profit in his time here.

I believe Bruce is -17 million in his transfer dealings in 3 years, Stoke is -79 million in 4 years.

And if he'd spent a fortune. You'd be up in arms about that!
Lets see what our brand new squad achieves before saying it's ****.

We can still bring another striker in in Jan when Gyan is on African nations cup duty. I like Bentner he has height, speed and can score.

Ellis did convert a huge amount of debt and losses to shares though, some £30million if i recall correctly.

Stabalising the club is every bit as important as signing players.

I think you got the wrong end of the stick there, he was saying he hasnt broke the bank he has had to buy to sell, so he is doing very canny thankyou very much. ((and how short hasnt realy bankrolled the club (not just Bruce) since he came into the club.))

Cest, I do rate your articles because you do put a lot of effort into them. But simply making assumptions that Short isn't backing Bruce is wrong because we didn't sign the player that you wanted us to sign.

People have to remember that this football club is a business, as much as it hurts me to say this, it's that fact and in every Quinn interview he always states about running the club right. Financial fair play comes in next year and we can't even fill our stadium yet all we want is more and only right as fans we should ask for this. But there is asking for more and being unrealistic. We have signed 12 players this transfer window, all young and with this in mind I'm not one of those people that can't see the big picture. We can only have what we can afford and this will not be compromised because we the fans want it.

This is only our 5th season in the premiership and the way people talk it's like we are world beaters and have a shed load of cash to throw at players when this is not the case.

I think Bruce is doing it the right way. Slowly getting better players in and getting out the dead wood. Heay, if we had the owner that city have I would be asking for more. We don't so I'm not.

Bruce isn't the greatest tactical manager we all know this. He's not the best looking either.. Him and Quinn have a plan and they're trying to make it work.

Bruce Out yes, you can have that opinion Cest. Like everyone here has, but I think you're way off the mark with you thoughts.

Oh, Stoke are playing in Europe, we are not - that's extra full houses and they need a bigger quad...!!!! We have far better quality than them it just need to gel.

Well, as I expected, the Bruce at any cost supporters have turned my words to support THEIR arguments.

I wanted Bendtner in the Jan transfer window and was slaughtered by some on here now saying he is a good signing. I rate the lad but that’s not my point. If we have pushed back in Jan for the lad and were knocked back until this summer, THEN went for him straight away, I would have believed he was a genuine target now. We didn’t and he wasn’t. Bendtner is a desperate last throw of an increasingly desperate dice form Bruce and I dare bet at 12 noon yesterday, he wasn’t even on the radar. According to the Journal this morning, Crouch WAS keen on the move here but the club couldn’t do the deal. When that became obvious, Bruce **** his pants, realised that he would now be slaughtered if no-one came in and jumped for a name that leapt out of the news casts when Stoke turned their attentions from him. Its not that the lad is a bad signing, it’s the shambolic way he has been recruited as a panic stricken after thought.

Now all the Bruce supporters, can you explain this to me please? Your man had EIGHT (that’s 8) months to find a replacement for Bent. It is his job to do so after HE sold the player. That it boiled down to chasing a Stoke target after he was rejected by them yesterday afternoon at the very last minute, is an absolute disgrace. Indefensible. What did he think, or indeed did the board and supporters think a replacement for a top quality striker was going to cost? We sold one in January for 20m. That could have bought Cisse for 12m and paid him for 3.5 years at no cost to the club. Short just refused to give him it.

He had chance to impress. He had the opportunity to make me eat my words. He, like the majority of blinkered happy clappers who have had a pop at me on here today, has failed absolutely. He has also failed to impress Ellis Short either and it’s as obvious as it is truthful, that the owner has the management on a very short leash now and has not provided the funds or structure for a top Bent replacement. It is equally obvious that Short is keeping his options open and his powder dry for a possible change of personnel in January if it is needed.

I see nothing new in our game plan or future fortunes, with our striking transfer failure this summer. Tell me where the goals are coming from and I'll happily change my mind. Tell me how the team formation and personnel will change to alter our faltering start to the season and I'll change my mind. Not fanciful hopes and speculation just hard facts.

Its going to be a long, long hard season....................well until January that is, when things may just change for the better.

Lets see if Bruce actually has the intelligence and balls to play them first.

Its not the squad thats rubbish, just the person putting them together (or not in his case) and organising them into an effective team that is. The squad aint the problem. Bruce is.
