Red Bulls next young driver. British with an interesting history and interesting chance of getting enough licence points. https://www.foxsports.com.au/motors...9/news-story/2a49dd0d39e0a6aeae72777978cffee4
Obviously thought he was on his playstation. I did giggle though, it's pretty insane, I want to see it.
I feel like Stoff has literally 1 or 2 races to show that his bad run of form was down to a dodgy chassis rather than a limit on talent. I don't think Perez is the right call for McLaren, he didn't do much against Button and it would feel like a stop gap before they get someone better (much like last time he was in the team). It's a shame Danny Ric went to Renault as I had him as the perfect driver to lead McLaren back to the front.
Perhaps, but on such decisions are careers made or broken. I can't honestly say I think he's MUCH better off at Renualt by comparison at the moment but then F1 does rather throw up surprises.
This is true of course. Either way it's not a good situation that a driver of his calibre is faced with this sort of Hobson's choice.
Depends how the Newey rumours develop. If he gets to drive a Newey-design car with proper manufacturer backing for the engine, without Max to worry about, I think he's made a very good move!
I can see him moving . Every where he has been he has been brilliant . To go to yet another team and weave his magic , why not ?
There's been talk, particularly on a couple of podcasts, that Newey might join Renault. I couldn't tell you what the sources are. He denied it a couple of months ago, but the rumours have returned. I can see the sense. Is it possible to design a championship-winning car without manufacturer support? Ricciardo would not have left Red Bull, irrespective of Verstappen, if he had seen any suggestion that Red Bull could win a title any time soon. Perhaps Newey has had the same thought when he's seen the Honda data?
I can see what you are saying, but is winning and proving himself all that important to a 59 year old who has already done it all? I'd say he has the pick of who he wants to work for, if he phoned up Ferrari or Mercedes asking for a job they'd sign him up immediately imo, so why hasn;t he gone? I think he's settled at RBR, he has the run of the team, pretty much, if he wants to have a bit of a sabbatical so he can design a yacht for the America's cup, they let him.
Cant disagree with any of what you say . Imagine though the pride he would take and the praise if he designed a WDC / WCC car for yet another manufacturer ? One that has tried and failed before .
I tink if he was going to leave he would've left with Seb for Ferrari, I'd be very surprised if they didn't approach him at the same time. I think he's happy at RBR, there's nothing he has to prove, he went to non-works back-of-midfield RBR and turned them into a domninat force. Happiness counts for more the older you get imo. Edit: found this interview with Newey, I think renault burnt their bridges wirth his over their relectance to spend. http://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12...attractive-offers-and-why-he-turned-them-down
But that's one of my points, RBR let him do the side projects that interest him, not sure many other teams would let their lead aerodynamist take some time off to build a boat and keep paying him.
So red bull offered Alonso a seat and he turned it down. So Horners comments were just sour grapes? Along with the bag of sour grapes they have been chucking at Ricciardo
Who's the most believable? Alonso or Horner. Now that's a hard choice, it's like choosing between Trump and Farrage
