Way too early for my books or was it for accumulated lack of results? It would be interesting to compare win/loss ratios for the Johnson lads over the same period and even more interesting to see where senior goes from here. Is there a spot somewhere comfortable waiting for dad to rest?

    something doesn't ring true here!

    A Cheltenham statement read:
"It is with great regret that the board of Cheltenham Town have this evening parted company with manager Gary Johnson.
"We would like to place on record our sincere thanks for the tireless work that Gary has done on behalf of the club, work that has left the club in a stronger position than when he took over."

3 x 1-o defeats one against top 6, and a 1-1 draw, a 2-2 draw in the cup v top 3 club...it does not make "good reading" but it is hardly a disaster! and they state … "It is with great regret and ….has left the club in a stronger position than when he took over."

WHEN you regret something it usually means you wish you had not done it,or it had not happened. It is more like "look at Forest Green go, new stadium planned, crowds getting bigger, points in the bag we need to do something ...fast....maybe try a new manager who will have to try and do something with Gary's plan, and the players he has brought in … and sounds like Zidane might be available!

    Maybe he resigned?
The club wouldn’t state ‘regret’ in a sacking.

There was 'regret' when Lansdown relieved GJ of his duties, in fact I remember a tear in both their eyes.

Hasn’t he recently lost his brother? Maybe his hearts not in it at the moment and left on mutual agreement.

possibly why they left it for a few games to show a bit of compassion? he had the heart op also but it seemed it was a positive sacking statement especially after the game ...like 20 minutes after!!!!

I thought the official statement when GJ parted company with Bristol City was ‘Mutual Consent’.
Could be interpreted any way you want.
I wish him well - arguably the best manager we had since Dicks.

Best to hang his boots up now , so to speak . What with his heart op and everything probably best to call it a day.
Besides it must be difficult managing two clubs at once , even if his son is the official manager/head coach at one of them .

Cheltenham Town's sacking of manager Gary Johnson after four games of the League Two season has been criticised by their former chairman, Paul Baker.
Baker stood down as chairman in May after 21 years in the role, but remains a shareholder with the Robins.

New chairman Andy Wilcox told BBC Points West the dismissal "was based purely on results" and the board were unanimous in their decision.
"It was a very difficult decision to make. Gary had done a huge amount for this club. We were worried for the future," Wilcox said.

"The board met with Gary on Saturday but we were not unanimous in terminating his contract then, but after Tuesday's match everyone was in agreement that it was the right time to change."

I wish them plenty 0f LUCK bad luck … how can they reason not good enough to sack him Saturday but a few days later it is unanimous and after a draw away and only losing by 1 goal on the first three games, quite a few new players who need time to gel good time to bow out I would say "CV says" sacked 4 games into season! as opposed to sacked after 11 games!!!! …… their next 8 are wicked BRENTFORD …. hopefully will fill their boots , have Exeter, Lincoln, Colchester, Forest Green, Cambridge, Crewe and Northampton they could well be bottom of the league before October ….. good luck Gary, TIMING IS EVERYTHING ...LOL

Was meant as a tongue in cheek comment , seemed good in my head , did look a bit odd written down John , I kind of hoped nobody noticed it .

Any club that sacks their manager after 4 games deserves to struggle in my book. How can someone be judged after 4 games? 10 maybe but 4 no way.
Anyway, it doesn’t look like a sacking to me - more of a regrettable separation. I suspect there is a lot more to this than that statement.

well, around the late 60's early 70's one o9f the "local teams2 I used to look out for was forest green rovers, one of my workmates son played for them, they were in the Gloucester league, and beside going to he gate to follow City, followed FOREST GREEN, but alas from a distance ! from the 90's onward I sort of lost touch with them, and visits to City were less and less due to a heavy work schedule ….
they came back to flavour of the month after a cup run some 10 12 years ago, [ had actually forgot all about them! ] so started to follow from a distance once again. Over the yearsI have had an affinity toward quite a few teams when on a Saturday [ mostly ] I would skim through the different results of about half a dozen teams …. anyone else look out for other teams? ….
other teams DARLINGTON ..they were on TV as a team facing doom and gloom after the documentary they excelled only to fizzal out ..currently in the division vanarama north …….. Rangers …. Man utd, since 1950's …………. and Cheltenham! about 10 years ago after they avoided relegation in the last game of the season ….. and of course up until the sacking of GJ! ...which I think was premeditated, from the start of the season and held over due to GJ'S PROBS OF THE PREVIOUS SEASON …
