I've never said at any time they are right to hold onto the disputed territories, I really don't give a monkeys, however, I do know that a lot of the disputed areas were taken in the aftermath of various wars started by the Arabs in the region. ie the Golan heights.

The Israelis seem to think they are merely annexing territory won by force,(as tends to happen in wars) i personally don't know nor care, they also seem to argue that they have to hold onto those areas to stop attacks in future, again, (the Golan Heights) I neither know nor care if they are right.

If you go back far enough there was no "Palestinian nation", there was the Ottoman empire who owned all of that area, so unless the Palestinians are claiming to be the Ottomans I don't see what claim they have and obviously neither do the Israelis.

Better a capitalist slave than a communist one. In a capitalist society The Poundshop is a place you go to pick up the odd thing you've forgotten to buy at the main supermarket. In a communist society The Poundshop is where you go to buy most of your goods.

Though the definite origins of the word Palestine have been debated for years and are still not known for sure, the name is believed to be derived from the Egyptian and Hebrew word peleshet. Roughly translated to mean rolling or migratory, the term was used to describe the inhabitants of the land to the northeast of Egypt - the Philistines. The Philistines were an Aegean people - more closely related to the Greeks and with no connection ethnically, linguisticly or historically with Arabia - who conquered in the 12th Century BCE the Mediterranean coastal plain that is now Israel and Gaza.

A derivitave of the name Palestine first appears in Greek literature in the 5th Century BCE when the historian Herodotus called the area Palaistin?(Greek - Παλαιστ?νη). In the 2nd century CE, the Romans crushed the revolt of Shimon Bar Kokhba (132 CE), during which Jerusalem and Judea were regained and the area of Judea was renamed Palaestina in an attempt to minimize Jewish identification with the land of Israel.

Under the Ottoman Empire (1517-1917), the term Palestine was used as a general term to describe the land south of Syria; it was not an official designation. In fact, many Ottomans and Arabs who lived in Palestine during this time period referred to the area as Southern Syria and not as Palestine.

After World War I, the name Palestine was applied to the territory that was placed under British Mandate; this area included not only present-day Israel but also present-day Jordan.

Leading up to Israel's independence in 1948, it was common for the international press to label Jews, not Arabs, living in the mandate as Palestinians. It was not until years after Israeli independence that the Arabs living in the West Bank and Gaza Strip were called Palestinians.

The word Palestine or Filastin does not appear in the Koran. The term peleshet appears in the Jewish Tanakh no fewer than 250 times.

Is Gibraltar British, are the Falklands property of Argentina?

What about the Spanish enclaves in North Africa? How did those nations come by those particular lands?

There are no disputed territories. There is Israel and there is not Israel. Israel have been demolishing Palastinian buildings this week. What war is that the aftermath of?

Annexing territories won by force. Well I suppose that could be true. Illegal though but true none the less.

You don't think the fact they live in these villages being demolished is claim enough that it's their land? What claim do the Israelies have on any land in the region including Israel if we use your ****ed up logic?

They claim it for a number of reasons, Religious, Historical , mostly because they claim there is no such land as Palestine, and that land was always theirs. So they claim.

I'm sure there are scholars somewhere who could give us chapter and verse and i'd be interested to hear it but with the best will in the world me and you are hardly going to agree if they have been fighting over it for 100 years.

I believe the Jews have claim on some of that land, how much of it, I don't know. I also believe they as a nation, have a right to exist (unlike some), if that makes me a Zionist then yes, I'm a Zionist.

You really want to compare Gibraltar to Israel??

For starters the gibraltarians refused certain sovereignty after having a choice, what choice has been given to Palestinians except get out?

No one took over Gibraltar and said right the Mormons are having this coz Smithie was told in a wood by an apparition
