The question is whether Hurst will employ them - whether the players can apply them - not what they are.

Hurst did say in his interview we weren't pressing the way he wanted.

We need to play higher up the pitch. Either in a front 3 or a front two. We need to try Harrison and Jackson together. At the moment we do not get bodies in the box. So that means when we create a chance it fizzles out and does not result in a good goalscoring chance. If we don't create goalscoring chances we cannot put the ball in the net.

World class strikers like Mo Salah will create a lot of their own chances. Great strikers like Harry Kane will put away most of the chances that are created for them. A good Championship level forward will put away a goal every other game from 5 or 6 good goalscoring opportunities. Kayden Jackson has had no opportunity yet to prove himself because he is getting one or two half chances in his time on the pitch. If he played a full match and had Harrison creating chances for him with the rest of the side playing higher up the pitch then I think he'd probably get to the 20 goal mark this season - a lot more than Waghorn managed.

How to concede fewer? There is nothing much wrong with our defence tactically but attacking takes the pressure off the defence and we need to make fewer individual mistakes which comes from drilling in training and confidence.

Its this "McCarthy left the team in such a mess" bit!

All we needed to do in the Summer was add an extra bit of quality to what we already had not rip everything up and start again!

Genuine Question: I remember you being the most loyal of Mick supporters soon after he was appointed, but did you still support him when he left? Haven't bothered trawling back through other threads to see as I can't remember whether you voiced your opinions on Mick in the last 12 months..

Yes I was an ardent supporter of Mick for the first 3 or 4 years until things got really bad and it was obvious that he had to go. He basically ****ted miracles for us with the resources he had and I still say now that if ME had really backed him during the 2014/15 transfer window we would have been promoted that year! After that is when the wheels started coming off. We were never destined to reach the same heights again and Mick knew it and he slowly began to lose interest. The same thing happened to Joe Royle when he was refused backing and this club will never ever learn!

Warky and fieldmarshall - look at it this way. You are the Ipswich Town manager today. Not last week, not last season, but today.

You have the current playing staff and you can bring in one loan signing.

    What would you do?

If the answer is that you would look to others for solutions or moan, blame Marcus Evans and talk about Mick McCarthy then guess what - you will be relegated.

If the answer is that you will keep working hard in training and trying to get the best out of the players then that is exactly what Paul Hurst is doing - and you have a chance to build an Ipswich Town team over the coming months and years but now you need to get some wins on the board - I would relish that opportunity and I know everyone at the club is.

Let's simplify the problem - remove impossible scenarios like going back in time or signing big money players or sacking the manager after four league games. That's where you will find the solution.

Oh I see yorkie it's not the tactics after all, but if it was Hurst might not use them and the players too stupid to implement them, well that's cleared that one up then.

    What would I do?

Not take such a huge gamble on untried and untested players in the first place!

Evolution not Revolution or in other words not go ****e or Bust! <ok>

It clearly is the tactics. Formulating the tactics is one part of the problem and is something that fans in the stand can do. Getting them to work on the pitch is a lot more difficult and is not something any of us are qualified to do.

As stated, going back in time is not an option in the real world Warky.

Hurst has clearly made his bed and now he has to lie on it!

What happens if we go and win the next couple of games? (including a morale boosting home win against the old enemy)

I don't want us to play badly and score a lucky goal for a win in the game because it will steer us further in the wrong direction. Getting the performances right is more important and the results will follow, but we need to steer in the right direction pretty quickly.

Does anyone know the worst start to a season we have ever made?

In terms of how long we have waited for our first win?

Didn't we go 8 or more games under Keane in his first full season...

We all want the same thing and I would be the first to stand up and cheer because it would mean Town are doing well, I would be delighted if my fears for our team were proved groundless, ecstatic if our owner turned out not to be an arse, and our manager getting to grips with a higher level of football.
We need experienced players, Carter - Vickers is available yet we show no interest so a player we know would be an asset will go elsewhere, worrying times.

Everybody wanted change - we got it
Now everybody expects us to win every match after we made a change - I don't get it <doh>
