Guys; as I wrote yesterday; we would not make any permanent signings yesterday and I also wrote expect us to make some loan deals as cover for first team players; having had a look to see who had not been snapped up. I have no inside knowledge; nor am I very clever - it was the sensible thing to do under the circumstances:

    1. We knew we were short in the CD position and needed an expereinced starter.
    2. NC/NA tried hard to find a suitable player; but options were limited and we could not get our man.
    3. We needed cover and were prepared to see what was left over from the transfer window.
    4. We found a left footed CD and we chose to get some cover.

I suspect that NC/NA have decided to hang onto the Oxo transfer fee and wait to see how the season goes [the team must have exceeded even their initial expectations thus far] and look either for the January transfer period or the wait to see if we need to bolster the squad for the Premiership at the end of the season [felt good writing the last part - if only..]

I would guess this is a suck it and see signing and if he dose well he may well stay, if not we look again in January
The worry is why did we end up with our 5th,6th or 7th choice. What stopped us gettting one of the choices?

On Player, comes over as great guy. Tasty too, Jen! Maintaining our ranking as best looking Championship side. Strangely, he came over as a younger Nigel Adkins. When asked what do you know about Southampton, he replied, 'It's by the sea, with palm trees..a tropical paradise.' When asked what his plans are in January, he said,'I'm thinking about tomorrow..the training session. You should never plan too much in football.' Seems a nice guy, that they will like in the dressing room, and he is looking for a new start after his 'chances were limited at Celtic'.

I just can't get too excited about a 4 month loan signing, either way. We needed cover and that's what he is. I think it's good that if we can't get the permanent signings we want, we don't blow the money on 2nd rate players just because they are available.
Delighted that all that nonsense is behind us....for a few weeks!

Celtic paid over a million for Jos (his surname is not going to get used a lot, we have enough trouble with Schneiderlin), so I suspect we weren't going to pay that kind of money for an unknown quantity. He probably has these few months to prove himself with us. Hope it works out because then we all benefit. Good luck, Jos.

The view of a Celtic friend of mine. Must say i'm somewhat underwhelmed by this signing but will give him the chance to show what he can do.

Looks like he didn't have many chances at Celtic. He said in his initial interview that it seemed to be all about football at Southampton which he was pleased about. Sounds like there were issues at Celtic which wouldn't surprise me.

We've looked vunerable from set pieces recently 6'4 should provide some help there. And he likes to play the ball out of defence too, what's not to like? We have just had the best start to a season in decades following a cracking promotion season I am happy to trust NA & NC a little longer.

The bottom line is we needed a left footed CB to increase the depth of the squad in that area, and we now have one until January when the window re-opens. NC is clearly not willing to pay over the odds for a player just because the fans want a big name signing. I'm glad he's waiting til January as hopefully we'll be able to leverage our strong league position to get an even better CB than we would have been able to get at this point in the season. Remember we're trying to build a whole squad for the prem around our core - if we cant get exactly the player we want for the money they are really worth then a loan in the mean time will do just fine.

Jos has until January to prove himself. Jos and Jose has a ring to it! Won't hurt for Seaborne and Martin to have some competition either.

What do people think the future holds for the Jedi? He was class towards the end of last season, and although he is slow he could certainly do a job against the less mobile target men in this league. That said, a 6ft 4 dutchman is also going to be able to win long balls.

Wait and see. He could be great, he could be lousy. He's on loan, so it's try-before-you-buy. If he's great well stick with him, if he isn't we'll send him back to Celtic. With Puncheon's wage packet seemingly gone to QPR, we're no worse off then we were.

To my mind, the only objection is: do we have any decent defenders coming up through the academy? If so, shouldn't they be seeing some first team action?
