Been on PFC's site (I won't be contaminated will I?) and found they only have 20 players listed in first team compared to our 31. Thought they were promised a lot of money! Must say that our squad looks very good when you run through them all. No sign of Jos's number yet.
This is a bit controversial but it appears to me that we had a five year plan to get back into the premiership (Correct me if i'm wrong) and the lack of aggression intent shown during the transfer window would almost suggest that NC and NA would be happy for us just to stabilize ourselves this year. I'm convinced we will have no problems finishing in the top 10 but felt that had we of gambled just a little bit more and gone for Jay Rodriguez etc then we would of been serious contenders for play-offs or even automatic promotion. Don't get me wrong i am not saying that there is no ambition, because there is, but just feel that the club is in no rush for us to get back into the premiership this year.
I think Cortese stubborness has cost us a few deals personally, but what deals we have done im fairly happy with - although still baffled as to why we signed another LB
How on earth could you possibly know this? he is a businessman, not stubborn. He wants the best deal possible and is not going to be mugged off. What deals has he been too stubborn with? I personally think you should keep your opinions to yourself in matters like this, as you are a kid with no negotiating experience what-so-ever.
But how can you give an opinioin on something that you literally know nothing about? it's speculation.
weve all heard many a rumour of cortese being a hard person to deal with, plus many deals falling through (not all necessarily cortese fault) - the club dont tell us anything so we have to rely on rumours
Regarding the wish for a new strong striker - James Beattie has just been released by Rangers so is available on a free. Anyone want him back ? Jos as has been stated needs to be given a chance. Some clubs just don't suit some players, or managers (WGS anyone ?) - with any luck Saints will provide him with the type of environment that he can thrive in.
Everything you've said is speculation. How do you know deals have fallen though if the club haven't said anything? The reality is, deals have fallen through, just like they have for every other club in this country, and in every business sector on a daily basis. If two parties or more cannot aggree upon a principle, then the deal is not going to be completed. This is commercially sensitive data, so why on earth should you be entitled to the information?
Look guys the bottom line is we are more stable as a club now than we have been for years. We are playing some great football and are 2nd in the championship, lets just give NC and NA the credit and respect they deserve. It doesn't matter about any of the speculation and rumors that circle around, whats important is that we are progressing very nicely. As for James Beattie, I think it would be great to see him back, was gutted when he left first time around. Not getting any younger but feel he could still do a job for us.
Jack Cork is the bargain of the century. Steve De Ridder already looks as if he could be perfectly capable of being a replacement for OXO. Danny Fox I really don't know much about, and Jos Hooiveid, I know absolutely nothing of. Hoever, on the evidence of the first two players alone, the transfer window was good business done. Remarkably, I think we have a slightly stronger squad now and pocketed a lot of money as well.
You know it is possible to be a businessman AND stubborn. Shocking, I know....... I think it's not necessarily a bad thing for Cortese to have, what I called in another thread, a stubborn "swagger". This is with regards to knowing what is best for the club and sticking to his guns for as long as he wanted in any situation. So effectively, both SF4L and Joey are both correct. But Joey, really? Is there any need to be such a troll?
Joey B............ Saintsfan4life........It does strike me that both are arguing about the same thing but in different ways. Neither of you can possibly know what went on behind closed doors. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be entitled to opinionate as to what happened. All what we are saying is guess work, accurate or inaccurate, it make no difference. It is what it is speculation.....nothing more. As for it being commercially sensitive data.....you are absolutely right. That is exactly why we are speculating because we don't know. There is nothing wrong in either of your arguments both are valid..... both are opinions and should be aired.......why not? So come on guys there is no need to try and out do each other on the insults front. Why do that ? You both want the best for your club you just possibly disagree how or what is best.......So now can we be friendly to each other please just so we mods do not have to take any necessary action Ta muchly BT
Going back to the question; "How did we fare?" We did pretty good. The four areas most of us were discussing this summer was; striker, central midfield, left back and central defender. We seem capable of scoring goals at this level, maybe striker is not so important at this time. Maynard is still out of contract at the end of the season; if he has not signed a new contract by January and he continues to do well [and Bristol don't]; we will be in a good position to snap him up. Cork and Fox look excellant signings, which leaves us with central defender; we tried, we failed and we did the next best thing and got a tall (stopper) to cover Seaborne and Martin until January.
I just hope someone drives Lambert home every day, that he is never allowed out on his own (or with Barney), that his mattress is on the floor, and he lives in a bungalow, because I did hope we'd sign another target man, even though we can score from midfield.
Ha Ha , exactly Fran. I also hope he or Connolly don't develop a nasty streak so they avoid suspensions as well. Can you imagine either of them with a temper..............Scary!!!
