Rescuers had to saw off a bear's head after it latched onto a man's leg in a horrific attack.

Bridger Petrini was out walking his dogs in Raton, New Mexico, last month when he came face-to-face with a 400-lb bear.

The bear charged at Petrini, knocking him over the edge of the hill and sending both of them rolling down the slope as the animal mauled him.

Petrini managed to pull out a pistol and shoot the bear dead, but its jaw remained clamped around the 36-year-old's leg until rescue crews sawed the head off so they could free him.

Bridger Petrini, a rancher and big-game hunter from Raton, described how the bear charged at him while he was out for a walk with his dogs a few weeks ago. The bear knocked Petrini, pictured, over a hill and mauled him as they tumbled down the slope before Petrini shot it

Petrini detailed the shocking experience this week, admitting that he has gotten 'way too close' to the 'overly aggressive' bear.

'When he saw me, he pinned his ears down and immediately made a big charge at me,' the rancher and big-game hunter told local TV station KRQE.

'Down the hill, we went again rolling and he had bit me a time or two but he was never able to get on my upper body, so my legs took most of it.'

Petrini shot and killed the bear while he was being mauled, but that didn't manage to free him from the animal's clutches.

'Somehow or another, he had bitten down on my calf muscle it had basically twisted it over his bottom jaw so he died with his teeth locked and so I wasn't able to get away from him,' he said.

Before they could release Petrini's leg from the massive bear's jaw, rescuers with the Raton Fire Department and the state department of Game and Fish had to saw off the animal's head

    This'll help if you're ever...

The task of moving the massive bear proved to be quite a challenge for emergency responders from Raton Fire Department and the state department of Game and Fish.

They were ultimately forced to saw off the bear's head, leaving it attached to Petrini's leg before they could maneuver it off of him.

Petrini was transported to University of New Mexico Hospital, where he received more than 200 stitches.

Resident physician at UNM Steve McLaughlin said the hospital treats bear attack injuries every so often, but that this this one was 'extremely unusual'.

'I've never seen this before,' he said.

'Bears are huge so you can see all kinds of different injuries from bites to scratch marks from the claws to blunt force trauma.'

Petrini was released after a week of recovery but has been left with extensive nerve and tissue damage in his right leg.

    TIPS FOR BEAR ENCOUNTERS
The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish gives tips on its website for what one should do if they encouner a bear:

    • Stop, and back away slowly while facing the bear - do not run
    • Avoid direct eye contact, as the bear may consider that a threat
    • Make yourself appear large by holding out your jacket
    • If you have small children, pick them up so they don’t run
    • Give the bear plenty of room to escape, so it doesn’t feel threatened or trapped
    • If a black bear attacks you, fight back using anything at your disposal, such as rocks, sticks, binoculars or even your bare hands - aiming for the bear’s nose and eyes
    • If the bear hasn't seen you, stay calm and slowly move away, making noise so the bear knows you are there
    • Never get between a mother bear and her cub

I have seen a bear in the wild mind you. My top tip is keep driving. They’re big ****ers but they can’t outrun a soft top Chevy with a bloke from Hull with his foot hard down on the accelerator...FACT

Sales of 'dumb phones' rise by 5% as more people ditch their iPhones

Sales of 'dumb phones' have risen as more and more of us attempt to escape smartphones and social media, figures have revealed.

The devices, also known as 'feature phones', allow users only to make and receive calls, and do not feature the internet or other apps.

They are seen as a way to switch off from constant online connectivity.

The no-frills handsets – such as the Nokia 8110, are also popular with devilishly handsome shoppers who want an easy-to-use device.

While global sales of smartphones increased by just 2 per cent last year, sales of 'dumb phones' rose by 5 per cent, the figures show.

It comes after a report by Ofcom found that 78 per cent of Britons admitted they could not live without their smartphone, spending an average of two hours and 28 minutes online on it each day.

Psychologist Dr Daria Kuss said some smartphone users 'may be aware that they're using it too much, however they can't stop themselves'.

I bought one of these when I came to Vietnam a Nokia and it cost me £10. I use it with a local sim, and my i phone still has my O2 sim in it as it is locked to them.

I read a lot of tech articles, just my thing, and from what I understand 'those in the know' predict that Apple will released a $2,000 iPhone next year, the mind boggles.

We had similar advice in Oregon earlier this year “Fight Back” ... Yeah right!!

“Run like **** after legging up your Missus” would be far better advice.

Father writes brutal résumé for his 16-year-old daughter

Lauren Moore, 16, of Redcar, North Yorkshire, was said to be good at 'f***ing everything up'

When writing a CV, job hunters often consider how to make themselves stand out for the right reasons.

But Lauren Moore's father took another approach, after writing a brutal résumé for his daughter, including skills such as 'not listening' and 'browsing Facebook'.

The girl from Redcar, North Yorkshire, was also said to be good at 'getting on her dad's t***', 'f***ing everything up' and 'losing all documentation'.

But Lauren, 16, a GCSE pupil at Rye Hills School, saw the funny side and tweeted the CV with the comment: 'Remind me not to let my dad do my CV for me.'

The girl, who lives in a £150,000 three-bedroom semi-detached house, was also listed as having the 'skills and personal qualities' of being 'lazy' and 'late'.

She was also said to be 'reluctant', 'ignorant' and 'rude', 'hates people' and doesn't do mornings, along with being a 'typical 16-year-old' who 'couldn't give a f***'

Lauren, a GCSE pupil at Rye Hills School, saw the funny side and tweeted the CV to her friends

And as for references, her father listed a probation officer apparently called 'Ben Dover', along with the line: 'Don't contact him, he doesn't give a f*** either'.

Lauren's friends on Twitter found the CV hilarious, although some questioned why she also posted all of her personal details to social media along with the paperwork.

One of her friends, Abbi Stannard, tweeted: 'This is so funny giving out all clients information to fraudsters' – while another, Ashleigh Boyd, said: 'I'm screaming.'

Lauren suggested her father was 'trying to get on my good side by being unfunny', while other friends described her father as a 'lad' and a 'boyo'.

A kinder CV than I would have written about either of my lads at 16. And over 20 years later still would. The only positive reference would be they are both City fans.<laugh>

Brought a lump to my throat. Letter read out on test match special.

'My dad, John Taylor, had, unlike the current England batting line-up, dug in and battled doggedly to reach 83.

'He built gradually through his fifties as a true gentleman, a pharmacist, sportsman and father of two boys until the unexpected cloud cover descended just as he was looking to break free from the shackles and play with the freedom that retirement would bring.

'On an ever-increasingly "sticky wicket", he faced up and defended against a beamer in the form of Leukemia, the yorker of muscular dystrophy, the googly of Parkinson's, the reverse swing of diabetes and latterly was struck down by the vicious bouncer of dementia.

'But like fellow Yorkshireman Brian Close, he never winced, complained or succumbed to the temptation of amateur dramatics.

'He just accepted the cards he had been dealt and squeezed every last drop out of life that he could on a single-by-single basis with his amazing care team acting as runners.

'On 83, dad finally faced the inevitable unplayable delivery and left the field of play.

'I use the cricket analogy because TMS has been and will continue to be an institution of great importance to generations of our family.

'I remember as a boy, listening to the Ashes in Australia under my bed covers with a torch on at silly o'clock until dad finally lost patience and reminded me that it was school in the morning.

'My granddad was blind and TMS was by far his favourite form of entertainment. So it proved for dad, particularly when he was virtually bed-bound and it was always great to hear his infamous laugh as the team dished out its plentiful helpings of wit and repartee.

'However, most importantly, you managed to allow me to say goodbye to him properly just before his passing.

'Dad was rushed to hospital on Thursday, August 9 with another bad chest infection. On Friday, we were told that he had 24 to 48 hours to live and that. in fact, he may never regain consciousness.

'On the Saturday, I visited dad in hospital with my wife and after an hour she had the inspirational idea of getting Test Match Special on my mobile.

'After five minutes he opened his eyes and he was completely "in the room" and aware of us.

'He was able to convey that he was comfortable, he was at peace and I was able to tell him what a wonderful father he is and just how much I love him.

'Not one comfortable with massive shows of emotion, after 15 minutes he requested that we listen to the cricket.

'For three hours we listened to Woakes crashing it about at Lord's and making his maiden Test century.

'We got a digital into dad's hospital room and he listened to Test Match Special the next day and I don't think that it is any coincidence that he passed peacefully just after England had sealed victory.'
