Anything to do with the location of the old Ludgate ? In other words the (possibly) mythical King Lud ?

    Nice try, but sadly not.
That is the king in question, I think there is a lack of hard evidence rather than him definitely being a myth. Probably one of the warlords or local rulers after the Romans had left Britain. Henry II had statues of Lud and his two sons (who were said to be too young to succeed him) made to go on top of Ludgate, and eventually these were moved to the church. I drank in the Old King Lud on Ludgate Circus a couple of times in the early 80s when I was working quite close by, briefly. I seem to remember that it’s name was better than its beer.

Cheers Stan. Keeping to the theme of statues in London. Which monarch has a statue in London in which he is depicted together with a favourite court dwarf (sorry, vertically challenged person <doh>)?

Second clue. Not a British monarch, the only foreign monarch with a statue in London.

Not Charlemagne. To bring all the clues together - the statue is (from left to right), a court dwarf, a foreign monarch (standing), and an empty throne on the right. This is in Deptford, which is the biggest clue.

Peter the Great.... apparently he was very fond of genetic mutations in people....and always kept one or two around his court ...odd behaviour even for a Czar

All yours Beth. Peter the Great lived in Deptford for 4 months whilst studying naval architecture. Take it away.

Assuming The Mighty Joe Young is a film, they are all films.

This is indisputably correct so it must be my turn.

I was joking Beth, plus an about to go into a days worth of meetings in a different time zone won’t be able to respond much. Even though this is genuinely more important stuff.
