I'd left Hull by 84, gone down south to live in Bristol. I was a Saturday night regular at Spiders around 82/83 when it was still fairly punky. I remember seeing The Alarm there which was October 83 according to their website. I've not seen the book but I've just had a look at a load of photos from Andy Roe's book. Didn't recognise anyone tbh. Happy days though.
Always enjoyed Gardner's and Haworth. I spent many Thursday nights in there when I was a student. The plan always use to be. Haworth, Gardeners, into town to Barracuda, Mint and then Pozition. All a quid a drink. On a separate note. I see Piper have cancelled their Friday Indie night. Seems like they're just turning into Attic mk2.
Born in Birkenhead, supports the Blunts. Makes him a Hull icon.Though to be fair to him he is that rare thing, a socialist who practises what he preaches. Was talking to someone in the pub the other week who used to knock about with someone whose recording studio he used in Brandesburton in his early recording days and he thought he was a great bloke with no airs and graces about him.
Used to work with a Wednesday fan who said Heaton used to be quite heavily involved with the goings on with the BBC (no, not the broadcaster) in Sheffield.
I thought that he was born in Birkenhead, but he was born in Bromsborough historically part of Chesire. Could have been a near neighbour of yours.
Anyway back to the OP. Was it a hotel. As with the revolving doors and the bar on the left it was like a foyer. Was it? Dutch usually good at stuff like this. Where is he?
Dutch always seems to be scarce at this time of year. The article about it needing updating referred to it as a commercial leisure facility. FFS it's a pub.
That is why I went in Avenues in those days though Botanic and Polar Bear were closer. Landlord was a miserable twat but it was a good pint.
