Once again Joey is just telling it like it is, unlike many ostrich impersonators on this board.

We were ambitious enough to get shot of disruptive one season wonder Joey Barton and replace him with a French international. **** off Joey and enjoy your money.

Maybe, just maybe, he felt a connection to the club, became a fan of sorts, and thus like every single one of us on here feels the need to get things off his chest, air his view etc!

Joey really ought to take a step back and look at himself before being so overly critical about others. We signed him under Allardyce (when was that, summer of 07? He basically played one season with us 10-11. During the others he was mostly injured, had some appearances in the championship. Under allardyce keagan he was in jail, after than mostly injured with his foot and when not he was banned. During all that time he was collecting 60k a week, much like Alan Smith.

Sure on his day he's a very useful player. But honestly, we might as well have signed Dyer or Hargreaves on a free, both, have equal quality as Barton does. He wanted a similiar paycheck and then club said hold on a minute here. Okay for a year or 2 while you're fit but we're not going to tie you down for another 4 years, given how things have been in the past 4.

Barton's been believing his own hype a bit too much lately. 1 good season out 4. Well, that's like Giovani, Bassong or Stephen Ireland.

Joey is allowed to say what he wants. He knows more than all of us about the goings on at the club and if he wants to comment on it why not? Yes he has left now so people feel that he has no need but he spent 4 years at Newcastle and gained a lot of friends who are stuck at a club where ambition from our owners is about as likely as a Mike Ashley diet. The players he mentioned I'm sure were his friends so why would he speak about them if what he was saying wasn't true? We all know they will be sold at some point as soon as the likes of Liverpool offer us big money, which would be fine if we actually replaced them.

After what, 6 transfer window deadline days in which we've re-signed lovenkrands and kuqi and sold carroll, I'm puzzled how people still believe we will be signing people. We won't. Our club is run differently now. By hard bargainers. Think about it what you want, but they're not going to go out and break the bank. We're going to dither along till january, then go back for some of the targets. Maybe Cissé and Maiga.

I'm a bit disappointed we missed out on van Ahnholt on loan, he would have been good for cup games. I think he was a good player when we had him and hoped wed try and get him back and sign him eventually.

Now I'd appreciate some honesty from the club saying, look, we are looking for a striker but we're not going to pay over the odds or dish out silly wages, so if we don't get anyone, we don't get anyone. Technically we have about 5 strikers on the books, none of which show much promise but who knows. Best has scored goals when given the chance and make like Raylor he finally deserves a run in the team. Ba scored quite a few for west ham, so hopefully he can chip in. Shola will probably get his odd goal along with his 1 goal to 1 injury ratio. Lovenkrands is pretty much a waste but again he can play in the cup games. Till his contract runs out.

All the others Obertan, Marveaux, Hatem, hopefully they can stay fit and do something for us. If none of the above materialises, we're going to struggle, big time, and probably go back into the championship.

Got no problem with Barton commenting, don't understand why people are so bothered and being so precious. Entitled to his opinion and entitled to air it, particularly as he is well placed having recently been at the club. The fact he is bang on the money makes it even more relevant.

I thought we replaced Nolan with a French international? I don't remember signing another one to replace Barton. I think Obertan was his replacement. Wish we still had Barton, we're gonna miss him over the course of the season. Not as much as we'll miss not having a PL striker of course. Have to say I don't let much upset me these days regarding the club, these have a track record of disappointment. But I honestly thought they would not be stupid enough to handicap their manager by sending him into a season weaker than the one before. They have by virtue of our goalscoring options. Elsewhere on the pitch we've improved but the two key areas were left back and striker. No striker bar loans (is that possible?) and a right back playing left back who although comfortable there is much better on the right. I think Santon will do fine but I do worry where the goals are coming from.

Well, the money's obviously not going to be reinvested into the squad, but on the plus side it will be invested into local business, like Aspers... and Greggs!

Barton - full of ambition, that's why he went to QPR. Can't wait to finish above them.

the thing is they'll need to spend in january or we'll have best and lovenkrands as our only strikers.

The truth sometimes hurts........Ashley thinks small therefore is small. When Liverpool came back in for AC, he must have been wetting himself

I'm excited again now. Shall we start discussing targets we'll bid for but never get now? For some reason when I hear the words war chest mentioned in relation to this regime, I immediately picture Mike opening up a big grand chest for Alan, only to see Alan's face visibly drain as the little plastic soldiers you got as a kid are revealed.
