Speculation: Former Hull City goalkeeper Matt Duke is hoping to finalise a deal with a new club today, with Bradford City and Reading fighting it out for his services. Surprised he's not got a club yet!
Has he got a crap agent or is he asking for high wages? He would be a decent first choice keeper for a few championship clubs and pretty much every club in leagues 1 and 2.
very much so. as he knows phil parkinson and bradford is not far from where he lives i expect it to be Bradford. Duke will be No.1 there whereas Reading only a No.2. Duke needs to play.
He trained with them pre season though didn't he? Or am i making that up? I just assumed he'd end up there after the loan.
As far as I know he had trials at Sheff Utd and Rochdale in pre season the latest at Rochdale but he clearly wasn't deemed good enough by them. He certainly wasn't a great keeper and looked pretty immobile surely he's League 1 standard!
I was surprised NP let him go, we didn't have a goalie at all when he went . Big risk, proved as it turned out, he's better than the two we've got now.
Easily capable at Championship. Rochdale and other clubs perhaps couldn't afford his wages, and Duke perhaps wanted to wait and see if he got interest from a Championship team. It certainly is not indicative of his ability. Good luck Matt. I'd rather have Duke between the posts than either of our current incumbents.
Rochdale said he wasn't good enough to be their number one but could come in as their number two, and Reading wanted him as back up to. Shows i think the standard he is at now, i think this is a bit of nostalgia from City fans as he was never good enough to start in the Championship for us. Good luck at Bradford, great bloke.
League 1 player, bottom end of Championship at the very best - no more, no less. People tend to mix up loyalty and being a good servant with ability. He's not a particularly great goalkeeper - shot stopping decent enough (as you would expect from a professional goalkeeper) but his feet movement and in turn positioning are lacking. Would have kept him on as reserve keeper but no more. Wish him all the best of luck and is up there with one of the best servants this club as had and will do good job at League 2 level.
Really? According to reports Sheff United wanted to sign him, but couldn't as they're on a one out one in policy, and Duke turned down Rochdale. Google it.....
glad that the Duke has got fixed up. he may have another promotion season this time. with Parky in charge and also Devitt in on loan they look much better. will keep an eye on Bradford and my try to get in some of there games when city are not playing.
Yep he didn't want to go in as back up. Will check on Sheff Utd one doubt it, got a mate whose a big fan will ask him. I just think we are mixing up his loyalty and his ability, he was poor for us, and i think that showed by the fact he wasn't even wanted as back up last year.
LOL as back up, Rochdale really rated him, look at all the reports! He was going to be their number 1, no doubt about it.
