for a brilliant transfer window dealing. Before anyone says 'We should have signed Hazard, M'Villa, Subotic!' etc......They weren't for sale. What we did get were very solid signings right throughout the team, so we have improved from defence through midfield into attack. Also we've added some quality and experience along with leadership to the side. Wenger made NINE signings in the window and spent a very reasonable £50m given the return. So he can't really be accused of not spending and not strengthening. He should have spent £25m each on two top players I hear you say? Again, they weren't for sale. I think Wenger has done brilliantly - suddenly our team looks really strong: ...................Szczesny............. Sagna...Vermaelen...Mertesacker...Santos ...................Frimpong............. Walcott....Wilshere....Arteta..Gervinho .......................RVP................
Ah but was it Wenger doing? Ask yourself why the sudden panic to sign EXPERIENCE - Wenger was TOLD to sort it out.
Don't be silly, the manager makes the decisions and he's been saying for months that he'll strengthen the squad. Of course I think the 8-2 absolutely cemented his desire to bring in new players, but to suggest that he was going to leave things the way they were and needed pushing into making signings is silly.
...................Szczesny............. Sagna...Vermaelen...Mertesacker...Santos .............Song....Wilshere........... Walcott........Arteta..........Gervinho .......................RVP................
suit yourself - IMO he was pushed into action. Stan didn't PICK the players but he said sign experience.
Obviously the manager and the board speak with each other about transfers, but I don't think anyone was 'pushed' Wenger understands more than anyone else what changes were needed.
Mertesacker is dominant in the air from crossed set pieces and Arteta is good at whipping in set pieces. It seems like a good dimension to add to the squad. Park looks like a good poacher, judging by the Youtube compilations. Another element added. It's worth noting that three captains and a vice captain have been brought into the squad also. I understand that a captain need only be more commanding and influential than the players around him, but at least they have the experience of the responsibility. Therefore, more elements added in experience and leadership If Song and/or Frimpong learn to stay back and help the defence as a priority then I'm confident of a decent finish. The signs Frimpong gave vs Liverpool were very promising before being sent off so if he can reign in the red mist (which was a problem the great Wayne Rooney had, remember - the impetuousness of youth!) a little then that would be another important element added. I'm confident and happy. Like you say Piskie the big signings weren't there. I'd rather Wenger addressed the problems in the squad with squad players than brought in a big name for the sake of it.

Watford R............last time I saw QPR play Arsenal, we got stuffed 6-0 at Loftus Rd, scoring three own goals in the process. Personally, I think Arsenal did well bringing in the players they did, and I am sure that Cahill will join in Jan. Surprised they didn't get Samba.... Oh, and Arsenal will finish top 4. They have done so for last 14 years, this year maybe a tad harder now Citeh are doing a Chelski, but Arsenal have the quality to do it
Why should Wenger be applauded ?? For doing something he should've done 2 months ago ??? Do we say those who stay out of the courts should be applauded for being good people or is that what we should be doing as a matter of course anyway !! Some of you are far too easy to please. I am NOT happy ! All of this should've been done ages ago and it goes to show that Wenger was talking crap about transfers taking ages. Funny how when he wants the players he can get them in 24 hours !!!!
Things work differently on TDD. Anyway, while I concede that things should have been in place earlier, at least they're in place now. Some of us are impossible to please.
He has plugged the big holes in defence and midfield. Interesting to see how you do with the new signings in place.
Boffo - how can I be pleased by this ?? He has simply done what he should've done bloody ages ago, I'm angry, it should not have come to what it came too. Wenger has lots of bridges to build with the fans still .. trust me ! Some of you are easily pleased. Football is a 2 way thing, the fans ARE the club, we support the team and we as fans have been treated shockingly over the past few years. Wenger simply doing something he should've done ages ago does not appease me one little bit, I am still fuming.
I believe Arsene's done a great job here especially that last minute scramble for Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun coming on board can only give us more depth. For all those who question the lack of EPL experience among our players, well these two late signings of yesterday along with Mertesacker, Santos, Park, GErs and all the other through the summer give us a better team than the one we had. Remember that we had only got so far with the former starting XI. Yes Pool have reinforced over the summer but we have every chance now of gunning for a Top 3 or 4 place. Hats off to Arsene
Well, enjoy your aneurysm. What can I say? I don't see the point in 'fuming' when action - overdue, admittedly - has been taken. Time will tell if it works. If it doesn't, well done, your anger wasn't misplaced. I can't imagine the pride will last long though. I've yet to be convinced that the fans have been treated 'shockingly' either.
You are not convinced ? A 6 year lack of REAL investment in the squad, the highest price for tickets in the land and increases on that price too. We are being milked.
Well we have brought experience into the side so that counts for a lot I believe since with that we'll have a defence that can co-ordinate and save us the agony of the headless chicken syndrome that was so much of our game at the back. I'm a happy bunny
I wasn't having a go at their team, just asking a pretty reasonable question. I was at the 0-6 too but it's somewhat irrelevant. Liverpool and Chelsea have stronger squads imho so I was curious as to what these fine people thought.
