  1. This is falling into the 'too ridiculous for words' category - unless it's Poch getting his own back in DL <laugh>

Seriously cannot see this. For so many reasons.......

Juve have confirmed Marchisio is now a free agent after 25 years at the club.

I’m not trying to hint at anything but WE NEED A CENTRE MID AND HE’S A PRETTY GOOD CM (albeit injury prone) AND HE’LL COST US NOTHING OTHER THAN WAGES. So yeah, you know, maybe some clubs should look at signing him... <whistle>

I like your thinking, but... isn't it a sad indictment of where we are this season. We ****ed about so much during the summer dragging our bloody heels, that we have to scour the planet for scraps. Pathetic.

Yeah summer window was disappointing and frustrating. We only needed one or two guys, shouldn't have been that difficult. Robbie Keane said last week that he "knew for a fact" we were after four players but all were priced ridiculously by their clubs, that's probably true but in the market we're in, everyone is now overpriced. I respect Levy don't wanna get ****ed over but ultimately there's gotta be a compromise.

Marchisio is better than a scrap though, been one of the top midfielders in Europe for a decade or so now. Would be a very, very smart signing by any club that does pick him up, hope it's us!

Isn’t Yaya Toure a free agent, too? I’d take him as well!

Yeah I think he is. Surprised no one’s snapped him up already as it goes.

The problem is both Toyre and Marchisio don’t fit into Poch’s philosophy of buying young hungry players to develop. Neither do they fit the clubs stance on wages and older players.

I’d be amazed if we signed either. If we did, it would stench of desperation although their experience is what we desperately need.

I just think both are too old. The fact they’ve both been released tells it’s own story.

Especially as he said he’d play for £1 a week! Surprised he wasn’t number 1 on Levy’s hit list!

You know some fans would moan if we signed either. The fan base is toxic at the moment and any excuse to moan, they will.

But I agree, the experience is exactly what we need. Especially from Toure. He’s a premier league winner, too.
If we couldn’t sign a new CM for the future due to the market and fees, signing one on a free who can add value to the squad is the next best thing IMO, even if it’s just a temporary fix.

    This.

Both Yaya and Marchisio are winners, bringing that sort of mentality and experience to a side would be massive. Marchisio still has a good couple years left in him and would probably be my preferred choice as he’d have a more hands-on approach, Yaya I feel could only really give us a season and would likely only feature for 20-30mins in games.

Thinking about The Dembele Question, and working on the basis that his contract runs down next summer, which scenario does everyone think is preferable?

    Scenario One: January signing
The most obvious suggestion, but obvious for a reason: signing somebody in January would give whoever is picked as the Dembele replacement a period of time to integrate with the team and Poch's tactics for the remainder of the season and also meaning they can pick up where they left off come the beginning of next season like Lucas Moura's currently showing, while also guaranteeing a complete lack of nervous breakdowns at the thought of another summer-long transfer saga. This scenario would certainly be the most logical for players whose contracts are running down, with Rabiot being the most obvious example of this, and there would be room to negotiate.

    Scenario Two: January pre-contract agreement
While this scenario wouldn't offer the immediate benefits of Scenario One, and to be blunt considering how nonsensical our last few pre-season campaigns have gone NEW MIDFIELDER would be just as rusty as their teammates for the opening fixtures while also being behind the curve regarding tactics etc, what it does offer is the ability to rest easy knowing a key role in the team will be addressed in the summer several months ahead of schedule, while also offering the chance of negotiating, which would certainly be the better scenario in the case of players such as Ndombele.

Scenario Three: The summer-long transfer saga
Well you've got to admit that we're experienced in these, which has to count for something...right?

Scenario Four: Have a nice cup of tea and wait for all this to blow over
After all, after three seasons at the club, surely it's time for Sissoko to step into the breach?

Scenario one would be ideal but the most expensive as winter prices are always ridiculous and more than likely the selling club won’t want to lose a player mid season.

Since it's that time of the month again, we're being linked with a January move for Kieran Tierney - for the Levyesque price of £10m following Scottish Saltypool's failure to qualify for the Champions League.

You can tell the Express came up with that one, can't you?

I live in Scotland and work with a lot of Celtic fans so just for that reason I’d love to see us sign him and then have him as back up to Davies :1980_boogie_down:
