Should we still go for Gary Cahill in January?
I think we could still do with another CB.

That would give us a four of Metesacker, Vermaelen, Cahill and Koscielney to rotate
and Djourou and Miquel for Carling cup and FA cup games.

Cahill is free to talk to clubs in Jan and can let his contract run down and then go on a free.
Spurs were sniffing around last night too, so maybe we should go in with another bid in Jan?

That £6m rising to £10 doesn't look so 'derisory' now does it

Not when they're going to lose him for pennies in January. They got greedy, and as such they've ended up with a severely disaffected player on their hands who they know wanted to leave, and who knew clubs wanted him. If they try the same stunt in January he can sign a pre-contract abroad or take his chances in summer. If I were him, I'd take my chances, since he'll get a huge signing bonus and a mega wage packet on a free at the age of 26ish. He's good for another 6 years still.

He'll be worth going for in January, but no more than about 4ish million.

yes we should go for him in January -even for say £6m. A good signing.
Problem: will wages be a problem as a free agent?

He'll have to fit in with our tight wage structure, that's a given.
Spurs won't be able to offer him any more, they are desperately trying to reduce their wage bill.
Spurs won't be able to offer him Champions League football either.
I think we should be able to get him for around £6m in Jan.
But we need to be working on this deal NOW

I think we have bought ourselves time to better gauge our needs for the January transfer window. Real shame about Jose Enrique but you can't have everything in life, even bargain deals ;)

I may be wrong on this one but I thot you could only talk to foreign clubs 6 months before your contract ended, or maybe it's only foreign clubs you can sign a pre contract agreement with 6 months before your contract ended, am sure I was told that, anyone confirm this (or tell me an talking rubbish haha)

I'd be delighted if we got him. Presumably at the expense of Squillachi. I'm also pleased that, wherever he goes, that tosser Gartside gets as little as possible for him. Seriously, how unprofessional can a chairman be? I wouldn't be surprised if he went to Spurs in January but I feel he'd be a big plus for us. Obviously, Mertesacker may forge a great partnership with Vermaelen and we'll not need him but right now it looks a good deal.

Gartside lost in the battle of bluff and double bluff. He forgot Wenger didn't have to buy.
The longer it goes on the cheaper Cahill will be.

Yes, that and Spurs couldn't offer champions league football.

If he had longer on the contract it could possibly of worked for Gartside but he must of forgot the Chamakh saga.

You lot are deluded if you think Cahill will come to your shambles of a club now. Your manager and club showed a lot of disrespect with what you offered for Cahill and clearly Wenger doesn't rate him that highly or else he would have put in a decent offer. Cahill will wait till the summer and go to a club that can offer him Champions League football, which clearly puts you out of the equation.

Yup, the joke is on Bolton. They put a massive price tag on an average player with 1 year left on his contract. £10m would of been huge for a club like bolton.

  16. If you are who you purport to be then this post is a very sad and cheap shot. Highly unprofessional sums it up quite precisely.
