Maybe we should try that guy who is managing Hull. Think he is called Nigel Adkins. I hear he has a great philosophy and could start all this off again.
We’re all 5 yellows warranted? Everton’s play acting was of Oscar winning quality at times. And of the point of when we had Pochettino and Koeman here we did play better football, but unfortunately bigger teams come in with much better offers and take them away, and as we are now IMO MH is our level.
I wait to be convinced. But if some are happy with Hughes´s battling but dinosauric football, then so be it.
https://southamptonfc.com/news/2018...nd-post-everton-vs-saints-premier-league-1819 Redmond reviewing the game....bit down as they hoped to avoid the poor start they had in the Burnley game. Felt the goals were preventable in the build up. Already talking about the need to avoid what happened last year. Why don't we all just plan the Mexico trip now? Or recognise we are only 2 games in and this is a learning curve*. *That's about as positive as I can get, but really don't need this on a Sunday morning. Let's hope the cricket can cheer me up
With India getting 500!!! And Stokes getting hammered all over the field for being picked ahead of Curran.
Hence the pulled face after my post....putting my hopes on a weak horse. The only positive was the late wicket...so let's go with that. Yay.
Strewth Guys...........We lost a very entertaining game of footy. In truth maybe it should have been at least a draw. We could have been a couple up before they scored. Although granted they too missed a couple of sitters.......But I guess thats football.........we should remember we had a couple of key players out yesterday.I agree we badly need to look at our defence but as someone else mentioned the defensive midfield had a part to play too. Giving the ball away in crucial positions nearly cost us against Burnley and did yesterday. I don't think Sparky has got his best 11 yet. The thing that pleased me the most was that we actually looked like we could score. IMO that is an improvement on this time last year at least.........We are heading in the right direction at last........
Thanks, Beddy….like some positivity....especially as it is early days. Doesn't mean that I want the manager or players to bury their heads in the sand....they are the people who can learn from what is going on and can actually affect the outcome. They can thrash it out in private and work on it hopefully.
I agree. We appear to have far more options this year and clearly Ings is a massive boost. Let’s face it we know defensively we are going to have some problems but the hope is that Vestergaard can sort some of those out and we definitely look more likely up the other end. Need to get that dual players/fans positive vibe going and some results will come. Saw lots of moans from other fans about Hughesy’s comments about Pickford. Nice to have a Manager who doesn’t pussyfoot about (even if I disagree with him on this occasion)
Hughes is never likely to make us a force to be reckoned with, unlike the dangerous team that we were under MP1 and RK. We have lost the players who made us such a popular team to watch - we have a manager that befits our current status. Nobody really wants Hughes as their manager, but when we went looking, he was what was available. He deserves this opportunity because he kept us up, complaining about him now seems pointless to me.
I said at the time that Hughes would never get us to the playing style of a few years back (even if he had the players to do so), but we needed someone to stabilise us. I hope he will be here for a couple of years (because that means we have not faced relegation), but I can't see him being a long term manager. Tbf I doubt a team of our size will ever have a long term manager....they either leave because they aren't good enough or because they are too good. I like Hughes and like the way he speaks his mind....a man with common sense. All I require from him this season is to sort it out.
https://thisisfutbol.com/2018/08/bl...earn-england-call-up-after-display-v-everton/ Merson praises Ings and thinks he might be up for an England call up. Didn't do him any harm that Southgate was there. But let's not run before we can walk, hell, yes...let's do that. I really like the look of Ings….he has a footballing brain, talent and seems to be a team player. I think we've got a gem here and we were lucky to get him...and he's on a 4 year contract.
I listened to the game and saw the highlights so take this with a pinch of salt. One consistent phrase that came thoughout the commentary was "another mistake by Hoedt". It makes me wonder why Maya doesn't start. Am I the only one to notice a double movement of the foot from Pickford? He kicks the ball, follows through, then tries to kick out at Ings again. Very, very obvious in the footage from the angle behind Ings. Clear as day. Apart from that I saw us lose a game that we expected to lose with a display that was reasonably decent. I know plenty of people don't care about new-fangled statistics but the expected goal figures were 1.51 Everton, 1.75 Saints. That says to me that it wasn't the appalling display of misery that this thread seemed to suggest. Vin
Let's face it, we are a very average side that will be lucky not to be embroiled in a relegation fight this season. Anything more is just wishful thinking. Today's performance was not bad, just about par with what I expect to see for entire season. There's not a player in our squad apart from perhaps Macca that would get into the top 8 sides starting line ups so how we can expect a top half finish is beyond me. We have to be realistic and that starts by realizing Mark Hughes is not the messiah and that we lack quality. There is a case of Cognitive dissonance on this forum!!
It isn't just happy folk who have cognitive dissonance...there are plenty of miserable gits who won't acknowledge any positive signs as they are so determined that we will be relegated. I would rather fall into the happy group...continuously able to kid myself...than be in the miserable group who can never be happy. I will only be relegated once....and for that I will sacrifice the right to say I told you so. And the most important thing to consider is that recognition of the real situation (whatever that is) is immaterial...because our feelings affect nothing but ourselves.
So better to live in denial? I'm not putting the Happies down just think it better to live in reality and base our expectations on our perceived evidence than to believe in a fiction based upon our emotions.
