For those who are curious, the attendance for today was 58,297 So much for the Levy Out mobs' assertion we'd be lucky to get WHL's attendance for this one, eh?
Just home ... stopped off at a sky bar to watch the first half off the Chelsea v gooners match...that was fun Moura was outstanding, his pressing throughout was excellent as he continuously pressurised their defenders into mistakes. He took his goal brilliantly and apart from his missed header didn't really put a foot wrong. Thought that Trippier played well throughout and his free kick was outstanding. Lloris was good and made a couple of very important saves in the first half. Kane work tirelessly all afternoon while not having his best match. Toby, Jan and Sanchez played well over all but looked a little rusty as a unit at times. Davis was a little hit and miss but stuck to his task well. Dele did well and was a constant threat. Erikson was pretty poor but he continued to show for the ball which takes footballing courage. Dier did the simple things well and put himself about. When we changed formation he continued to play a sure and steady game. Pochettino made great substitutions. Dembele controlled midfield once he came on and Lamela made a great impact. And it was great to see Winks come on too. The crowd was big and in terms of the Wembley drag factor a bit noisy. Was great to see Ossie Ardiles presenting stuff the Lloris and Kane before kick off and the minutes applause for the original King Of White Hart Lane was brilliant. What a fantastic day! COYS
Cheers FT. We started well but you stuck at it and started to boss the game at times. Correct outcome, but could have easily gone the other way. Think you’ll do just fine this year! Bad start, but you’ve got a decent squad and some decent talent. And you try and play football
What won this was Poch showing one thing a lot of people have criticised him for over the years: showing flexibility. At a time when Fulham were causing us a lot of problems he not only brought on Dembele but changed the formation to a 4231 and that saw us regain control, and introducing Lamela helped us see out the game - although as I've seen mentioned elsewhere... Lamela in a Nutshell Takes on the entire Fulham defense to setup Kane for the goal. Play restarts, a Fulham player runs by him with the ball, and Lamela just shoves him to the ground. I hope Fulham get their season up and running soon, as not only is there clearly a good team waiting to click, but also because it's good to have a likeable team from Fulham in the Premier League for a change...
Agree with almost all of that. The only disagreement I would have is that I thought Kane looked sharp. Feeding off scraps in the first half but an underrated part of his game is his long range passing. Couple of cross field balls to Tripps were outstanding. Took his goal beautifully. Looked dangerous until he came off. Great to see Moussa playing so well. Looked excellent when he came on.
Nicked from elsewhere... I'm gonna go ahead and dub this the "Mauricio Pochettino Shut's Everyone Up" Memorial Game. Here's why: Poche managed to address practically every single talking point that make Tottenham fans whine their brains out: 1. He started with 3 at the back 2. He started with Toby 3. Lucas had end product 4. He realized he had to CHANGE systems and did so thereby FIXING MIDFIELD 5. He subs in Dembele who looks like a god 6. He subs in Lamela who immediately has end product 8. He subs OFF Harry Kane giving him a precious 5-7 minutes of rest 9. He shows that Harry Winks is still alive! TLDR Are you not entertained?? This game had LITERALLY everything a whiny Spurs fan could have ever hoped for! What do we have to complain about now??
Some of those passes were great but he didn't look sharp to me, particularly in the first half when he had some great opportunities. Getting the August goal will be a great boost, but I still think he's a way off full fitness. Heaven help the PL when he gets it back
I thought he looked good for the first 20-30 minutes, and had some moments throughout the match that were better than we’ve seen for sometime, but he still wasn’t anywhere near the level he was at pre injury. Like you say, hopefully a good goal like that will help him push on. United next week, so we’ll need him at his best. I do get the feeling it’s going to be a very frustrating game though. Our forward players are going to need to be very dynamic, as you know Mourinho first tactic is gonna be to nullify Kane. It’s not gonna be a pleasant one for us to watch.
What was with the Poch 5 minute meltdown today in his after-match interview, is he feeling the pressure after 2 games?
Diego, no I think he's thoroughly ticked off that media hacks keep asking him the same questions and expecting a different answer. If they have listened to his previous pressers they would know his thoughts. He already said everybody starts a fresh slate and if they want to stay work hard.
I know that mate, but it's what the press do and he should know/be used to it by now. He is usually so calm and polite (and cutting ) in his interviews, today seemed different somehow.
