I promised my mates girls that we would visit them whilst they were on holiday. If I remember, red wine might have played a part in that conversation!
Flew to a wedding in Newquay in May 2017. Flight was during the Europop final so I was stressed about not being able to monitor the score. Ran off the plane into the bus shelter that passes for an airport. NO ****ING SIGNAL!!!
You can fly from Gatwick to Newquay in about an hour. I didn’t like to mention the fact this morning, that my mate and his family were down in Cornwall on hols came back last Saturday, took him 15 hours driving back up North, he said he was nearly crying
Took us 5.5 hours to get back from the IoW the other day. It's normally 2.5 hours door to door. The delay was pretty much all in Yarmouth as there were "high winds" (a breeze) which meant one of the two ferries couldn't cross so there was one going backwards and forwards (there used to be three but it's owned by a private equity group who have stripped it to the bones). The reason the ****er couldn't cross was because one of its 4 engines was knackered which apparently had been the case for weeks. We did end up crossing on that ferry as the winds dropped a bit. Most expensive crossing in the world! One **** switched loading lanes to try and skip onto an earlier ferry. We GRASSED on him and he got pulled over.
If you'd fly to Brussels then you can fly to Newquay. Takes about the same time in the air. Road transport is always the last resort for me. I can't kip or drink at the wheel (much).
Wightlink is worth £300m apparently. Two ****ing ferries transporting old biddies and us backwards and forwards between Yarmouth and Lymington. It's like god's waiting room and the village of the damned when you're on the boat and it has that airport no time zone rule so people drink pints at 8.30 in the morning. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/wightlink-on-course-for-300m-sale-0brtp9khp
IoW is ****, full of inbred feral kids and ex-convicts, according to my old flat-mates, who were a couple from IoW.
Ok, see what you mean. Going to the States in October. Crazy but the driving today is almost the same as the time we will be in the air going there!
It's a very weird place. Parts of it are Jeremy Kyle spectacular. Actually, much of it is like that. Where my in-laws are is very nice. On a sunny day looking out at the boats you could well believe you were in the South of France. But you're never far from the in-breds.
yeah, from what they told me, the place is ****ed, wasn't so bad until the ferries were privatzed which killed the tourism and the cost of commuting tripled. None of it helped by having 3 prisons on the island and the govt policy to relocate convicts close to where they are released. Put me off ever visiting
The island is good for an occasional visit . If you are into that kind of thing , then I highly recommend the Ventnor Botanical Gardens , no , I’m not joking
Morning everybody. I hope you all have an amazing day and all your football teams win this weekend. Even if they play each other.
I'm envious of people that can sleep on planes. No matter how long the journey it's something I've never been able to do.
