In 1947, a BSAA flight from Buenos Aires to Santiago (an overland flight) disappeared soon after messaging its expected arrival time, which was to be 4 minutes from the time of transmission. There was no more contact with the flight and extensive searches of the area at the time found no wreckage. However, fifty years later wreckage from the flight was found. What had happened to the plane?

Crashed into a glacier and the wreckage worked its way down to the bottom (?)

Got it in one again. The plane had been slowed by the jet stream and was in cloud, so the crew had no sight of the ground. They thought that they had cleared the Andes, but they hadn't and flew straight into a glacier. The plane had completely disappeared, to re-emerge 50 years later.

I’m on a roll. Though there wasn’t much competition yesterday evening.

William McCrum, a Northern Irish goalkeeper, had an idea in 1890 which was adopted by the FA the next year. What was it?

Got it. McCrum was a wealthy linen manufacturer but also a goalie. Very altruistically as a goalie he got sick of seeing defenders foul to prevent goals being scored and suggested the penalty (on very similar terms to today) as a solution, as opposed the the indirect free kicks which were awarded. Initially the idea was resisted as it was a ‘gentleman’s game’ etc, but a hand ball on the goal line in an FA Cup quarter final between Stoke and Notts County, which stopped a certain goal with the free kick being missed, changed public opinion, and the FA took it up.

McCrum played in goal for Milford FC in the first season of the Irish League 1890-91. They finished bottom with 0 points from 14 games, during which he conceded 65 goals.

Hmmm, what do we mean by ‘London’ here? Would, for example, Richmond be included?

I think the royal parks were all originally royal preserve hunting grounds.

Richmond Park would be the biggest by some distance.
    Bushy Park, which I love.
    Hampton Court Palace Park
    Hyde Park
    Green Park
    St James’ Park
    Regent’s Park
    and another one.

Hampton Court doesn't qualify I'm afraid, so you're missing two. One is adjacent to one of those you've named.

Two parks are adjacent to the one's Stan has mentioned, Kensington Gardens which is next door to Hyde Park and Primrose Hill which is across the road to Regents park. The other missing park is Greenwich. I thought that Wimbledon common would've been one but now realise that it isn't. Surprisingly Battersea isn't one too.

Kensington Gardens was the one I was looking for - The Regent's Park and Primrose Hill count as one apparently.

    You're right with Greenwich too.
