PNE fans didn't rate Chappers but he did the job last season and has a part to play this. Wait to you have seen him play in the red & white.
we were going to permanently sign the above. They all arrived in Southampton at 9.30 this morning but gott chatting to Nige who lost track of time and missed the 11pm deadline
I will reserve judgement on the lad till I see him play - It's not fair to base his future on his past. But I can't help but think Adkins isn't too excited about this signing either. If you're going to depict all the little bits of this transfer then it all points to one thing... That this was a 'he's better than nothing' signing. All of our other transfer targets this summer have been set for permanent deals (Jemal, Gorkss and Fontaine) yet this is a loan deal... Which is also only until January 1st. To me that says we'll be back in the market for a defender come the time the next transfer window opens. Nige' is always banging on about how amazing a player is when he signs for us - with Jos he's sort of just said "He's 6ft 4, he can play the ball out from the back, he has good experience. But we do already have Seabourne whose played well so far and Martin who is making good progress and we also have Jaidi. Full stop." I do believe we're good enough to challenge for promotion again this year, but after the sale of AOC I was sort of expecting more of that £12m to be reinstated in the team. Oh well, at least all the speculation is over - Now let's concentrate on winning games of football! COYR. Together As One guys! P.S, anyone attempting suicide over our lack of transfer business please just remember it could have been worse and we could of signed someone proven to be utterly sh*t. At least we know nothing about this guy, give him the chance to prove his worth at least.
Was being sarcastic dont worry! Seen a lot of Saints fans especially on twitter writing him off already. I don't mind if people say they are under-whelmed but to say he's rubbish and won't fit in is laughable. We know how a move away from a certain club can benefit a player.
Got to say I think this is a small gesture to the fans! A last minute deal for a series of complete fudges in the transfer market! We needed to add to the squad for a big season ahead, ok we may not look like it now but it's a bloody long season! Barney cud be doing time, Connelly is on fire ATM But injury prone that leave lambert as our other out and out striker. Still pissed off we didn't sign Gorrks I'm sorry it may sound short sighted but he has by far more proven than this chap who has never settled nor achieved anything in the major footballing leagues.... I hope he proves me wrong and is brilliant don't get me wrong! How wrong can everyone be about a decent transfer budget. What does everyone think the problem was? Were we aiming for unrealistic targets or are we not prepared to pay the wages or are we genuinely satisfied with what we got! I think maybe I am a bit sour because I like a lot of saints fans have been doing a lot of page refreshing and Internet searching today and feel this is a major anti-climax!!!
I like Jos already, just for this attitude:
More I think about it the more frustrating it is!!! I wasn't unrealistic in my expectations like a lot of fans but I honestly believe we made a complete cats ass of this transfer window, I really hope we stay free of injury! Think we had a chance of doing a Norwich this season... Still might have we just needed two or three signings (permanent) who wanted to play for the badge! Lol I wonder how many will turn up for open day now and if maybe that day was set up with the idea we might be pulling in some unknown from Celtic on a half season loan? Gheez Saints!
Fans of former club AIK in Sweden rate him very highly: "To the supporters of Celtic. The guy is crazy, you must love him, he is the greatest."
Very positive he's left-footed. I'm less pleased that his right one was amputated, but apparently he's a personal friend of Dennis Hopper.
^^^ excellent He was at fault for one goal in Braga...out of 4 in the tie. Less than Charlie Mulgrew; really, Celtic were outclassed
Not really upset, but not quite what I had in mind. My feeling entering was that we needed a steady if unspectacular presence alongside Fonte, and everything I've read of Hooiveld suggests that he's pretty inconsistent...great on his day, but a liability at times and a tad flaky. Could prove to be a good bit of business (and there is little doubt that if he plays well, Celtic would be happy to part with him permanently at a pretty reasonable price), but as the biggest knock against Seaborne and Martin is that they can be quite uneven, I'd have preferred not to add to the collection.
Admittedly, I felt a little underwhelmed by this loan signing earlier, but have since done some research.... 2007 - Played 26/26 league games for Inter Turku (9th of 14 in Finnish Top Division) Goals Conceeded in his games 28 - 1.08gpg. Named Veikkausliiga Defender of the Season. 2008 - Played 26/26 league games for Inter Turku (1st of 14 in Finnish Top Division) Goals Conceded in his games 12 - 0.46gpg. Named Veikkausliiga Defender of the Season. 2009/10 - Played 27/30 league games for AIK Stockholm (1st of 16 in Swedish Top Division) Goals Conceded in his games 18 - 0.67gpg. Also Played 2/38 league games for Celtic (2nd of 12 in SPL) Goals Conceded in his games 1 - 0.50gpg. 2010/11 - Played 5/38 league games for Celtic (2nd of 12 in SPL) Goals Conceded in his games 0 - 0.00gpg. Also played 11/33 league games for Copenhagen (1st of 12 in Danish Top Division) Goals Conceded in his games 12 - 1.09gpg. *Last 4 Seasons Combined - Played in 97 league games where the team he has played for have conceded 71 goals - 0.73gpg. Not saying he's perfect as he's been playing in Scandinavian/Scottish football, but the lad seems like a winner, and one who plays in teams that when he plays don't concede goals bearing in mind the average no. of goals per game is roughly 2.68 (or 1.34 per team). Also worth noting that his successes at Inter Turku and AIK Stockholm were not just by playing for the biggest club in those respective divisions. Inter Turku were only founded in 1990 and were/are a mid table club bar that 2008 season. AIK Stockholm are generically only slightly better in their league, and hadn't won the league in the 11 years prior to the 2009 title. Anyway, don't think we should write the kid off yet, he may have some ability at this level for us. Lat
Good write up Lat, seems like many fans are quick to write off a player before he has even pulled on the shirt. I'll only decide after hes played a fair few games for the club whether he is any good or not. I trust NA and his scouting team to find good players so we shall just have to wait and see, but I'm hoping this guy can do the business. Who knows we might have another Killer on our hands
Thanks for the useful stats, latviandream. I'm with the side who err on the positive side for now: a. better than no signing at all, hopefully b. football is littered with players who represent the adage "one man's rubbish is another man's treasure" c. a Celtic reject arguably represents a better quality prospect at the moment than a defender who plays in their 11! I'm not ecstatic by any means, though - and what worries me is how the clubs around us are strengthening, particularly up front, as our defence stays pretty constant bar Hooiveld. Nice to see the likes of Parker leaving the Championship, though. It's all about our strengths relative to the rest.
Agreed guys, we'll all just wait and see. If we're having a punt though, it may as well be on a 4 month loan. I was down on it earlier, and am not thinking he'll definitely prove the doubters wrong, but I can at least see some kind of positive angle now I've taken some time to research. Let's just hope he recaptures his form of 2 years ago ;-) Lat
