@GFFN Lee Cattermole will not be joining Bordeaux, despite the Ligue 1 side making a loan offer for the English defensive midfielder. Player's wages are viewed as excessive & Sunderland wanted to sell, not loan, according to @Mth_Adrien.
The 3rd choice for him was to sit in the Fairfield pub every night getting paid mega bucks from us and doing feck all. Im sure Jacks taught him well.
I've not heard any suggestion from Catts that he wants to sit around doing nothing for his money. It does seem he wants to leave and that may well be the best solution for all involved but for the time he's at Sunderland he'll probably be trying his best and training/ working appropriately. Ok so he's very limited but not comparable to Rodwell in my eyes.
Yeah hell probs snap Mumba or Majas leg in training. Happy days. So he shouldn't say feck all. Hes on twice the money most players are in this league and hes been a key part of our back to back relegations
He certainly should keep his mouth shut as he doesn't do himself any favours. For his ability and the league he's now in he's massively over-paid but that's not exactly his fault. He wants out and I hope he goes for everyone really, he simply isn't as good as he thinks he is.
I’ve no problem with him going at all, if he stays we still have a decent player. He’s not been a dick and said he won’t play so give the bloke some credit he’s doing his job and not causing a fuss because he wants to leave.
That's the thing for me, there isn't a lot to criticise him for attitude wise but having him lingering around when all he represents to me is failure is slightly spoiling the fresh start happening at the club. Same as O'Shea, all you hear is model professional etc and that's great, if only they were some use on the fecking pitch.
Sadly Haslam his so called "best" is not anywhere near good enough even in this league, catts has always been a liability, and is one of the players responsible for our decline, which coincidently started with his arrival. Whoever gave him this ridiculous contract should be shot. He can of course prove me wrong by putting in some average performances and help out the club he has contrived to nobble, but I doubt for one reason or another that he will. The comparison to Rodwell is not that far off the mark, but at least like JoS he turns up, which is more than can be said for that other charlatan.
That's mostly fair enough. I think we can all agree that it would be great if there were some way he could move on. I don't expect him to though unless Sunderland supplement his wages as he simply isn't worth what he is currently on and other clubs aren't going to pay it. I think he'll mull around the club this year, training well and putting in 6 to 7 out of 10 performances. I don't think it's that he's rubbish or doesn't care but his legs went a few years back (he really isn't that old either!) and without the mobility to back up his tenacity he's not even half the player he was.
I have always maintained that he was never as good as people bulled him up to be, he creates problems time and time again because of his wretched ball control, this used to get him into all sorts of bother with referees as he tried to rectify his own mistakes, now he just lets them go, and is usually caught out of position as with the goal at Luton, it has little to do with his injuries imo its just that his failings are becoming more and more obvious. Not only is he costing us a fortune he is blocking the progress of more deserving cases. My worry that Ross will be fooled, by his "professional" attitude and patter, and overlook his failings, a few managers have and it usually ends in tears.
Only a complete anti Cattermole persuasion could blame the Luton goal on him! 2 lucky deflections landed at the forwards foot! What’s wrong with a professional attitude? According to Ross he’s a model pro. Or would you rather he raped the club like Rodwell did? No pleasing some people. He’s not a first choice. He’s a squad filler and will probably be good enough at this level. And that goal on Saturday should’ve been cleared before it got tnear Cattermole. But overlook that and blame him anyway!
It was either Ross or Methven who said we aren't going to be ****ed around with when it comes to selling players. If you want one of our players pay what we want or bugger off. We're not going to be letting players go on the cheap. The players are assets and you have to meet the clubs valuation. Personally I like the stand the club has taken with Catts. You want him? Pay up. Otherwise he's in the squad for the next game. Think it was Methven.
I was at the Bolton game when Catts made his debut for us and it's one of the most impressive debuts I've ever witnessed. It wasn't just his tenacity at winning the ball back, he was pinging the ball 40 yards and landing it on the players toes. There's a good player in him, but as has been stated in this thread his legs have gone now. The lads in this league will be fit and will probably run rings around him. There's not too many chances in football for a player like him now, being a hard man in midfield. Those days are gone you need to be athletic with it too, like Kante. I don't think he'll ever make an impression again on a team, no matter where he goes. I'd prefer not to see him playing for us again, though. I won't knock his attitude, he seems to be getting his head down and not going on like Rodwell, N'Dong and Papy. He's just lost his way. He's been a good servant to us overall.
Agree with every single word. Loved him in the past - don't loath him now and would happily shake his hand and say "thanks" when he leaves
In simple terms, Catts won’t be going anywhere as nobody is going to want to take him. That’s the reality of it, we couldn’t shift him on a free as nobody will be 30k a week for a player who’s legs went 18 months ago.
