Once again you fail. Normally a General Election gets decided on issues and how good you believe the incumbent government is. You also need to think about allegiances and demographics. However, only someone living, on Mars would say that Brexit is not the main political issue of the day. Many people (and rightly so) are angered/disappointed about the Brexit outcome, so much so that some are seeking a second referendum. If people believe so much in something they will vote for the party that they believe will deliver. The Liberals went into the last election with that in mind and people turned away from them. If you can't work it out maybe you should join us 'thick, uneducated racists' on the Brexit side.
But what if they agree with the LDs on Brexit and nothing else? Most people vote blindly blue or red as they always have. One of the tragedies of Brexit is the focus in the media it’s taken away from real issues like the NHS, schools and policing. These are massive factors in a GE. The average bloke on the street on £25k with two kids has more pressing concerns than Brexit, I’d have thought.
Agree, that is what I have already said. However, you have said before how Brexit will ruining the country and for workers and families so your 'average bloke' would surely think that Brexit was his main reason to vote?
I don’t think the average bloke knows what to think or can possibly understand the full consequences of the various Brexit options- none us mere mortals can. We can only read what’s available and make our own conclusions, as you and I have. I don’t think it will ruin the country but I do believe it will make life tougher for those people. I certainly don’t think the great anti-establishment multi millionaires championing a no deal Brexit act in their interests.
TBH Watford I actually believe we will be better off (not short-term). The EU holds a lot of our companies back. Just yesterday a leading US economic advisor said 'Britain is far better place to do business than Europe''. Lots of respected economists believe that we will eventually be better off. I said when the pound dropped after the Brexit vote that the economy it is resilient and it will bounce back....and it did against the dollar. It only plummeted again after that muppet Carney had his voice of doom speech. once we get rid of the shackles of the EU I believe there will be some very quiet 'remainers'. But a happier country. I can also agree with your comments re NHS, homeless, transport, crime and other issues. TBH it doesn't matter who you vote for the same problems will exist.
Did it say why the US economic advisor says that? Because at the moment doing business in the UK is almost identical to doing business elsewhere in the EU, because we are part of the EU and share the rules, regulations etc. There are three differences though - one is language (Americans are even worse than us at second languages, unless Spanish is their first language) the second is that it is much easier to lay workforce off here than in most other large EU countries (really difficult in France and Germany) and the third is relatively low corporation tax. Ireland shares these things with even lower corporation tax. Which is why many big US companies have their EU offices there and in some sectors (like mine) manufacturing has been vastly increased while a lot has been closed in the UK (still a lot of R&D here though). Of course the biggest attraction that the UK (and Ireland) have beyond these three is that they are both part of the EU, the biggest market in the world. Surely the question the US Economic Advisor should be answering should be ‘once the UK has left the EU, will it be as attractive to do business there?’. And then we can ignore his response, as he is an expert and undoubtedly from the elite. A weaker £ might also make us kind of attractive as costs will be lower for foreign investors, but of course any returns they make in £ will be worth less as well. It’s gone down a lot against the $ in the last week, which is a pisser because I’m going there next weekend for work.
Educational attainment does not equal intelligence but there is a pretty clear divide between who voted for what
As I have said before. You always respond against everything I say sounding like you are some sort elitist, as if somehow you are better than the rest of us when sadly you are not. Actually, SHE said "Britain is far better place to do business than Europe, where taxes and regulatory red-tape are an economic barrier to investment". she doesn't mention language but i am sure like a boomerang you will return.
I usually respond with some facts which you don’t like, if that makes me an elitist and better than you, not much I can do about it. Sorry I couldn’t guess the gender of the economist from your original post, but even us members of the elite have limited powers. So I was right on tax, and regulatory red tape will include employment law. You can continue to chuck out the insults, no problem. I will continue to post in response to stuff which interest me, no matter who the poster is. I only speak for myself on here and anywhere else.
Guardian readers! Actually Sb, I find some of your comments have very sly remarks in them and it's is normally when responding to my posts or about my posts. I don't mind being described as a "thick uneducated racists", even though it couldn't be further from the truth. I called this vote because unlike the EU and some remainers I understand my country and how we have been treated by the EU. With all the project fear that has been posted/printed etc I have stood firm in the belief that it was b@@@@@@'s which it was. As for your comments about 'facts' (which seems to be your usual response), I have produced many facts which you just seem to dismiss. I would describe you a sly 'remoaner'. Someone who is really P'd about the result and cannot accept it but tries not to show it. You try and disguise that fact but when someone like me rubs you up the wrong way you let your guard down.
The ironic thing is that he uses that chart with the Guardian readers as top but only the other day he described a Guardian article as "crap journalism". It's just another one of those patronising charts created by remoaners to look and sound intelligent. Personally I would rather have a cup of tea with a white van driver that reads the Sun than some w222222 like Owen Jones. That is a fact.
Not just Owen Jones. Look at the top four. Your cup of tea would be with Owen Jones, Nicola Sturgeon, Nick Clegg and Jonathan Bartley (who? exactly!).
When I saw Labour as fifth I thought Gezza could have been added but then I remembered he hates the EU so maybe we can put in the highly intelligent Diane Abbott?
your posts are top quality and i feel like i actually learn a lot and generally your posts are pretty well laid out and is of a centrists point of view.
