    Accrington Stanley 0-2 Gillingham

You cannot ask for a better start than 3 points away on the first day of a new season. Great to see new boy Brandon Hanlan open the scoring and Parker to seal the points.

To be honest i was expecting only a point at best, but as with all new comers from L2 it takes a while to adapt to the pace of this league, the opposite of the big boy brute & hoof the league below.

Only 50 more points to go...

How many games did it take us to get to 3 points last season?

I think it was 8 games, we had 2 points when we played Charlton in mid September and gained our first win.

    Gillingham 3-1 Burton Albion

Didn't go to the game today for reasons previously explained, looks like my first game will be Wimbledon at Home. Hopefully continue these winning ways through to then.

But WOW what a start! 6 points out of 6 and no one can complain about that, well above and beyond all expectations. This early in the season i look at it as 6 points closer to maintaining league one status.

Last season it took us eight, yes, EIGHT games to amass this number of points!

I look forward to the various source highlights but have already seen the O'Neill cracker of a free kick but with a brace Eaaaaaaves is surely going to be star man.

Will comment more once i've seen the highlights.

Only 47 more points to go...

    In other news:

Ex Gills Stefan Payne who is no longer at Shrewsbury, scores for his new club Bristol Rovers but it's not enough as they go down 1-2 at home, against our hosts from last week Accrington Stanley.

brb - a MASSIVE difference, compared with last season, is that we have moved the ball forward QUICKLY!
Hanlan was brilliant. His pace, and with the pace of Charles-Cook, has given the side a more dynamic look. And getting the ball to Eaves ( in the middle - rather than on the wing,) will surely see him get 20+ this year.
Bingham was strong in midfield. Zakuani very solid at the back. I liked what I saw of Parrett.

I believe that the new-found speed of our play may get us the goals that should mean that we're not going to worry about relegation............ we'll see what happens when the pitches start to cut up.

Not often i say this mate but really impressed with the highlights i have seen and Hanlan has certainly caught my attention, been a long time since I've said that about a player, however, early days and I've not been able to judge him over 90 minutes. But he scored last week and assisted two this week. I think we might have found our next little gem and as you say tie that in with Charles-Cook, it's been a good few seasons since we've last seen a start like this.

Impressed with the quality of the highlights but 1 min 10 seconds to cover 4 goals?
there were a lot more they could have shown such as Hanlan hitting the bar/post, he was immense.
Had it been a 0 - 0 draw in the prem they would have found 15 minutes of dross to show.
Sky need to realise that football exists outside the premiership.

grumpygit - as you say. the highlights didn't do justice to the performance by The Gills. It is pity that only 4835 Gills fans were present - many missed an entertaining game.
.......BBC are worse than Sky, who at least do show highlights from the EFL. On Football Focus at midday yesterday, the BBC had a 'feature' on Sunderland ! The last time I checked, I see that Sunderland are a L1 side.......... when was the last time the BBC did a feature on The Gills ?

Interesting the BBC are showing a gate of 5,016 ?

Which gives me the opportunity to re-mention last weeks feature point team Chesterfield, under the management of maddog, I noted this week they attracted a crowd for National League football of 4,927 at home against Braintree. Wrexham and Orient also attracted similar attendances.

By the way lads another way to pick up brief highlights is through twitter, i was wondering how one of my followers was doing it, I assume after a little research, ifollow (which is the Gills channel) can broadcast live matches abroad, so my assumption is the clips must becoming from that and uploaded to twitter <laugh>

Well worth the watch, thanks pegleg. Hanlan, Charles-Cook and Eaves looked amazing, very quick and what is needed for L1. Really hope we can keep this up.

The 4835 was Home support, it was 5016 with the Burton contingent.

    Low

    Walsall 2-1 Gillingham

First low of the season as Eaves late goal was not enough to rescue the points, after a couple of much earlier chances during the game.

Walsall's first looked pretty decent and Ferrier by the sounds of it tore us apart. I thought it was really unfair to blame Byrne for giving the ball away further up the field. Their second goal certainly caught my attention less favourable, when it looked as though O'Neill was doing a performance for the Nutcracker Ballet in front of goal!

More comment, once i've seen the highlights...

Still 47 more points to go...

When in defeat always remember it could be worse, as ex Gills Connor Essam found today when his club Dover were thumped 4-0 away at Fylde.
