If last season is anything to go by, Hughes agrees with you (us) too. Stephens never regained his place once Bednarek made his debut (until Maya got suspended). And ultimately, it's Hughes' opinion which matters.
Honestly, I think that Bednarek > Stephens is probably the majority opinion. Bednarek is pretty nervy on the ball, but better at the defending thing.
Bednarek will only get better as player IMO , I can’t see Stephens progressing much more from where he’s at now. He’s decent back up to have though ,but isn’t good enough to start for me.
Vestergaard and Hoedt have to be two of the three, for me (and actually, in an ideal world, I think I'd ultimately like them to be our two of the two). Whether the third is Maya or Bednarek, I'm relatively relaxed. (Although if Vestergaard is as slow as people say, it'll have to be Maya. I'm not sure we can have two CBs, in Vestergaard and Bednarek, who have the turning circle of a cruise ship.)
I don’t know how this season will play out. I don’t know if ings will be a superstar. I don’t know if Hughes will see the season out. What I do know is that I’ve missed Saints and am thoroughly looking forward to supporting the boys all the way! Let’s do this! COYR!
