Well if you go in the North Stand then you would know it's not the best place to analyse a keeper, especially when the play is at the other end of the pitch. Also the amount of dickheads that go in there abusing the home and away players, maybe that had an impact on Marshall too. Not sure you would know about that.
I was just looking to see how many league games George Long has played (over 100) and on wiki it says he played the first game of the 2015-16 season for Sheff Utd and was then dropped by Adkins after they lost
Why does anyone believe that Marshall is competent enough to be our starting keeper.?????? Phelan persevered with him till he was fired when Marshall was allowing savable goals in every week due to his leaden-footed lack of agility and poor positioning. I don't know what his goals against average has been since we unfortunately signed him from Cardiff, who knew he was over the hill and were delighted to have him taken off their hands, but its probably over 2 goals a game, maybe closer to 3. And this was not, as some have claimed, due to a weak full back line. Dawson, Davies, Robertson, Maguire, Odubajo were not weak. Marshall most certainly was. Marshall has had more than enough chances!!! Its not "lack of confidence". Its lack of ability!!! The lack of confidence is in the four in front of him. Check out Burke's look of sheer disbelief when Huttons weak shot slid in across Marshall's slow motion late dive for the third goal on Monday evening. But Adkins has said he'll retain his place against Wednesday. So lets see how Long performs against United.
What I can't understand is why Long was given no game time in the preseason friendlies. Marshall could easily have got injured in the last friendly and Long would have had to play against Villa, having not played behind a new defence before.
Can I propose a moratorium on Marshall-bashing at least until after the next game he starts in? It's getting really boring.
Ok but if we lose on Saturday and it's down to the useless **** once again will you refund my ticket and travel costs?
Completely true story......I once played in goal and conceded 26 in a match......AND got Man of the Match award for the number of saves I made to keep it at just 26. Try playing behind that defence Marshall, you would be a gibbering wreck.
Marshall actually had 3 or 4 poor kicks during the game, one which he shanked left across the floor to Kingsley which could easily have been intercepted leaving them one and one. He isn't a very good goalkeeper
Aren't we just discussing one of our players ? If you think somebody isn't good enough is that 'bashing' them?
Bit of a difference between bashing and slaughtering to within a mm of his life, then doing it some more! Anyway it was just a suggestion 'cos I find 500 posts all saying the same thing a bit boring.
I would take Marshall out and put Long in, he's doing the right thing giving De Wijs another run but the problem is nothing will have changed behind him. Huttons goal was a clear example of the disconnect between the keeper and the defence, fair enough Marshall made a bad mistake too but the lack of cohesion at the back is the real issue for me. Hopefully Adkins and whoever the goalie coach is will have been working on the communication aspect this week, Marshall needs to be bossing the situation from the first minute.
