The only area we needed serious investment in was CM. We have a very, very strong squad and have done well to keep it together for another season.

I expect us to be well behind City, as we were last season, and yourselves - simply because your squad is terrifyingly good on paper and for the first time in a long time has no glaring weaknesses. Plus you have some outrageously talented youngsters on your books. It'll be a 2-horse race this year, with us United, Chelsea and Arsenal scrapping for the Top 4 Tin.

It's a case of 'wait and see' for us this season but in reality I can't see us winning more than the LC or FAC and in turn can't see that being enough to keep the likes of Alli, Eriksen, Vertonghen or even Kane at the club. Pochettino I have my doubts about - I think he will stay for at least a year beyond that as he seems determined to become the first manager in history to win the league without a net spend.

It's a shame but my heart tells me that this is the end of another chapter in the book; a step backwards before (hopefully) two steps forwards similar to what we experienced with the transitions from Hoddle to Jol, Ramos to Redknapp and AVB to Poch. The pattern suggests we'll appoint another clown in charge before he is replaced by a godsend who - hopefully - will sit in the hot chair at precisely the time the stadium gives us the clout we need to thrive.

If we are to ever win major trophies, I can no longer see it happening with the current core of the squad.

get the number of clubs that you believe match(ed) my question.

When they were such a club is irrelevant to the question.

I'm just gonna leave it with i'm a fan of football and winning things. You must be a fan of accounting books.
If you can't see that the football landscape now is different to 15 years ago then there is no point continuing this

At least this window will finally kill and bury the ridiculous 'Levytime' myth.

It happened ONCE, eight years ago. And we've been living off of the pixie dust ever since.

    So :

    - only 4 such clubs in the PL era

    - total financial casualty rate of 50%

    - the risks that were or could have been taken being time-invariant

No clubs from near the top of the table have gone bust in the tv money era. So the casualty rate is 0%.

    Sigh.

PL era <laugh> 1993 was 25 years ago

And almost certainly completely wrong. Aston Villa were never going to deal ahead of the takeover. Almost certainly they would have been banned by the bidder from doing so whole negotiations were in progress.

Dear oh dear oh dear (you have to laugh) . :)

So how many clubs, outside of those I have already mentioned,
(could) have financially speculated for the PL title in the "tv money era" ,
and how are they doing today ??

I assume the number is close to 40, as there is far less "risk"
in the "tv money era" , eh ...
