I'm not gonna sit here and list all the teams that have speculated and won things, speculated and not won things and aren't FUBARed. Look at the prem table. Most teams have spent more money than us over the last 5-6 years and aren't ****ed up. In fact i don't think anyone has FUBARed themselves in that timeframe. Even the teams that speculated and got relegated.
Yes This is why we struggle to get rid of deadwood. People know he’s a shrewd negotiator so don’t like to deal with him. It’s a strength and weakness.
simply not true ... Portsmouth Southampton (since recovered) Leeds Sheffield Wednesday Sheffield United Leicester (since recovered) Bradford Charlton Leeds Coventry Wimbledon Wigan Birmingham Middlesbrough Aston Villa Bolton Swansea Blackburn Hull West Brom Stoke Sunderland Swindon Blackpool Ipswich Forest 26 Premier League teams who screwed up big time. Only 2 recovered. 21 of them were established Premier league teams. Only Sheffield United, Bradford, Swindon, Ipswich and Blackpool were not established premier league teams but Ipswich chased the dream after coming 4th in 2000 (ish) only to be relegated a year later. The truth is some on here wantto gamble...gambling made a mess out of a lot of clubs...I would prefer us not to take the risk. I like the debates on here but think this will be my last post for a while as I think I am winding people up a little rather and would rather not.
It IS true. Relegation is part and parcel of the game. Not everyone can stay up, so you can cross half that list off.
I am beginning to feel like I'm watching one of those M. Night Shaymalan movies with the big philosophical twist at the end. In this case, we've all been trying to work out what 'brave' meant. Both in his book title and in the press conferences at the end of the season. We've also done more than our fair share of fantasizing over what the possibilities might be, and getting excited about coming back into the new stadium with a bang of a superbly strengthened squad. Is if we are toasting in the new stadium with shiny new players instead of champagne flutes. It's now becoming clear that his 'brave' meant sticking both with the youth and with the current squad, unless, of course, something amazing comes up. The twist is, he wrote it in the book ages ago. I genuinely hope that the bravery pays off. I also hope we lock Toby down and pay him whatever he wants to be paid. It's almost like selling Ledley because we can make a profit. Makes no sense. I'm now off to acquire a rocking chair so I can begin my mad person mantra.... In Poch I trust... In Poch I trust... In Poch I trust... In Poch I trust...
Somewhere we as Spurs fans seem to have lost our way with regards to our club motto and the words of our greatest ever manager and started to put too much emphasis on the business side of things. Note i said "too much", it can't be ignored of course, but at the end of the day football for us fans is about entertainment and winning. We've been entertained well over the last decade or so. We've won nothing
Then your opinion on the matter carries less weight, because there are no numbers to support it. All teams have spent a lot of money in the PL era to improve their standing. Some on the whole have succeeded, others have not (with various degrees of consequence) . But those NOT of the "Sky 4" , who dared to try to be CHAMPIONS with the financial spending necessary, is a very small number. And I would contend that they were : Leeds, Blackburn. Newcastle. Of the above : - one won the PL title - all put in decent title challenges over various seasons - two financially effed up and are now in the wilderness, one declined in performance and now has the occasional visit to the league below.
Ever since you came back things went down hill. CK returns - Grealish deal goes dead. Spurs fans go into meltdown. Deactivate your account now and we'll have enough time to get **** done.
That's your opinion. I don't agree. Teams in different situations are speculating for different reasons. Not every team is in the position to speculate for the title like we are.
You make some great points RDBD but I struggle to take examples seriously that aren't from the post-TV deal watershed era. The money sloshing around the PL now compared to when the 3 teams you've mentioned decided to speculate is mind-boggling. The lay of the land has changed drastically since then. Just look at how much clubs like Wolves and Brighton are spending. That was unheard of 10 years ago.
Don't you know we have got the best first 11 who will give anyone a run for their money? We don't need no ****ing improvements
Where does it say 'spend a load of dosh in order to try and win something?' Maybe Poch, when he says be brave is talking about the formation of the team. We play, IMO too many defence minded players-7 out of 11.We need to be brave and go for the win, even if that means we concede a goal or 2. Maybe we will see a midfield 2 of Dele and Eriksen, with Son, Moura and Lamela behind Kane.
What a load of **** for someone running a company valued at near on a Billion quid...was too busy with the stadium...**** my life only at Spurs can **** like that pass as a valid reason.
Maybe maybe maybe. I'll be the happiest person here if every other top level club in Europe has got it wrong and we've got it right. Seems unlikely. Are we deluded enough that we think Levy and Poch have come up with this never-thought-of idea for making the next step while all the other highly intelligent owners and managers out there have missed it? Eg,do nothing
Just as a matter of interest how many of the players that have moved this summer would we have really been interested in? Kovacic for sure, and maybe Fabinho, I don't know enough about Fred, Jorginho or Keita, we weren't looking for a goalkeeper so the 2 biggest signings weren't players we wanted - Then there was interest here in Seri, and thats about it. The likes of Wolves and Fulham have done good business, but Seri apart no one we (as fans) wanted, same with the goons and the spammers both have added players but how good those additions are we don't know yet.
