I don't question his decision. I question RBR's to let him go though. Madness!

long in the tooth? Senna was 29 when he won his first, Mansell 38, and Fangio was in his 40's. The introduction of driver programs has dropped the average age by about 5-10 years. Think how many 'youngest driver' records have been broken over the last decade.

As to Renault, they do a good job once every decade or so.

Ha! Yeah, and Damon Hill was something like 38 when he got started. Might not be back were it once was, but I'd say Hamilton and Vettel are going to keep going at the top for some time to come.

What fraction of a second is Daniel worth over Nico or Carlos? maybe 0.5 on a good day? The difference of Charles to Marcus? Add to that Renault own improvements. Renault qualified 1.3s off the pace at Germany. Add Daniel's race capability, It could be interesting.

It didn't go pop when RBR won, with Vettel, 4 titles. OK, pre turbo but sooner or later I think the reliability will return, hopefully sooner.

Horner dismisses any links with Alonso for 2019, effectively branding him a troublemaker.

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/137937/alonso-not-the-healthiest-choice-for-red-bull

"I've got huge respect for Fernando, he's a great, fantastic driver, but it would be very difficult to see," Horner said. "He's tended to cause a bit of chaos wherever he's gone.
I'm not sure it would be the healthiest thing for the team for Fernando to join."

Alonso will go down as a cautionary tale about how even the very best need to be careful with how they act.

He only got the McLaren seat because after two poor years Ron was desperate to get some prestige back. Nobody who's doing well thinks he's worth the risk.

I have said before . He is z brilliant driver . No doubt about it.

But his personal decisions , hot temper have truly scuppered his career . No sympathy for him from me if that perspective .

I agree but F1 is better with him there as he is a character. F1 needs interesting drivers, look at Max and the fans he has attracted in such a short time. It make it more interesting with the radio traffic being played, with drivers just giving techy info it wouldn't be as good.
Always good to have characters in F1, usually there is too many PR people guiding the drivers on what to say and what not to say.
It's good fun to see an angry/frustrated driver being interviewed.

Absolutely, having someone who is outspoken gets around the notion that most drivers are just corporate robots.

I think Alonso though has overstepped the mark on a lot of occasions and some of his words/actions have been disrespectful to the people who pay him a lot of money to represent them. Funny for the fans, but has it made sponsors wary of putting funds into McLaren if they are going to get bad mouthed?

Andretti would happily take him tomorrow... They don't seem too concerned about sponsors. :)
