Ok. By the same logic there is no guarantee we’ll be as strong as last year either. Players can have drops in form and a couple of well placed injuries and we’re ****ed
Maybe just maybe there are players in the academy and the fringes of the first team that Pochettino rates higher than the transfer targets we can afford.
If we had bid £25m for Grealish back in June when Villa were in the ****e instead of the usual brinkmanship from our chairman that was stymied by Villa securing funding at the 11th hour, he would be in a Spurs shirt by now and probably making his debut against Newcastle. If he was the player Poch wanted, Levy should have moved heaven and earth to sign him. And he didn't. He sat still, as usual, dallied, as usual, and it has backfired. As usual. Not an overreaction, just an observation of a pattern that seems to repeat itself every window.
Or...... He WASN'T the player that Poch wanted and therefore DL didn't move H&E, ......or sit still ......or dally - and it won't have backfired...... Just saying.........
So then Poch should come out and say he has total confidence in the squad he currently has and doesn't see the need to add anyone. More than the fans, the players themselves need to hear this utterance because everything he has said publicly since December 2017 points to the theory that he ISN'T happy with what he has and DOES want to progress.
United have been rebuffed for Mina, Maguire, Boateng and now Godin too. Squeaky bum time. Someone slash Toby's tires please.
And as far as I can recall, we thought that Eriksen started the season slowly, Dele didn't hit the heights of 16/17, Dier was...... well, dire at times, Wanyama was ok njure for much of the season, Toby and DoF for half a season and Lamela was struggling back after 18 months out..... On that basis, we've got a whole heap of top players whose performances this year my actually improve. Glass half full, me
Not really. It’s all ifs. If the signings X has made don’t work out they won’t be stronger. If X gets an injury or a player loses form the won’t be stronger. We’ve been the ONLY team to be a title challenger over the last 3 years (last year no title challenge at all, us vs Chelsea the year before and us vs Leicester before that, despite eventually coming 3rd). Can you honestly say you think the best way for us to take that next step up is to do no business this summer? If winning things is our goal (and it bloody well should be) the correct approach is definitely not to sit back and hope another 4-5 teams balls up their transfers so badly they don’t get stronger and/or get weaker. If that was a decent strategy do you not think more than 1 team would have adopted it? Do me a favour
As @SpursDisciple pointed out, my 3-day loan agreement is currently Spurs' only signing this window. You should be celebrating the fact that I am here.
Talking of Eriksen, we've not had a new contract announced have we? I thought that was done pre World Cup and being slowly announced. Time for some good news!
Not really. Mina was a 'no' because Barca would only agree if he was part of a deal involving Pogba going the other way. Maguire said 'no' because Leicester won't sell - for any price. Boateng said 'no' because he has aspirations to win the CL next year - which I found rather amusing as it was a massive slap in the face for Maureen. And Godin said 'no' because he loves Atletico and is part of the establishment there. Not silly money at all - the latter two were only meant to be loan deals.
Tim 'nice but dim' sherwoody has said on talk sh!te that Grealish will definitely sign for Spurs before the 5 o'clock deadline for £30M. That one is definitely off then.
Think I just went from 'glass half full' to 'glass half empty' in one sentence..... please log in to view this image
