You need to read between the lines with Matth. What he means is that Utd’s transfer activity has been abysmal this year so the window needs to remain open for as long as possible. If, however, they had completed their transfer business early like the old days of Utd, it could have shut a fortnight ago!
On the second paragraph I actually think that the season could have started a week later but that's a different argument.
Does it, hows that then? If a Spanish club, for instance, decides they want a Southampton player once our window closes then they can go after that player. It's no more benefit to any club, bar the European ones who can say no till our window closes then pester our players. Pogba will be the one in this window. Barca are just waiting till Friday and then they will unsettle him. I don't really care when the window closes, as long as it's the same time for all of Europe.
Because it stops the big clubs going after a smaller clubs star player who's started the season really well. I agree it should be the same for all of Europe though.
It’s a good start that the PL has done it. But currently it does put us at a disadvantage in he European market. Hopefully the rest of Europe will follow suit. I’d like to see the season start at the beginning of sept though and the window run until then. What’s happening with the winter break ? Is that happening this season ?
Agree with this, I've said it on our board since the deadline change was announced. If a top side gets off to a bad start they're able to exploit their financial muscle and sign players to improve fortunes which could end up dicking over a smaller club who'd find it hard to turn down the dough and then struggle even more to find a replacement. All leagues in Europe should adopt this - and I think in time they will.
So I take it I won't see Chelsea fans on here ever baulking at other clubs 'over paying' for certain players? Or clubs not spending enough as a reflection on the chairman's ambitions etc etc since fans shouldn't be bothered therefore not discuss club finances? Ooooooook
We all knew the purse strings would be tightened but I'm very surprised you've got nothing in yet especially with pochs end of season comments to levy about being brave and getting targets in early
Massive season for the spuds too. No pots this year and I reckon a few of them will be off, possibly the manager too if he feels his requests to strengthen have been ignored by Levy.
I'm still predicting three in for us, at least one of them being a "big" one as well. Still think the Grealish deal will go through despite Villa's supposed U-turn.
