Hiring your most capable coach in a generation then not backing him is madness DH. As much as I hate him if this was Jose he'd be nuclear at this point and rightly so. Poch's "need to be brave" speech at the end of the season seems decades ago now. As for the list, I'd dispute Carrick, Chadli and Dembele all for different reasons.
This. Because he’s such a tough negotiator when it comes to selling, clubs don’t want to sell to him. In buying mode he goes in low and expects to haggle and for the selling club to compromise. But selling mode he won’t haggle and holds out for the best price. I will agree he does his best for the club and I’m far from Levy out but imo he needs to be more flexible when it comes to signing players. Are the finances that tight that paying £5million more for a player than they originally planned to would cripple the club?
Where’s this idea he doesn’t get backed come from? Yet again this seems to stem from fans being annoyed at not signing the players who they want, not necessarily the players the club want. No one has a clue who Poch wants. In Poch’s new book, he even writes that Levy constantly asks him about signing this player and that player yet Poch says no. It seems Levy’s the one who offers to buy while Poch says “no thanks”. None of us have a clue what goes on behind the scenes to suggest Poch is getting backed or not. The statement of being brave can be interpreted in many different way. Fans only want to interpret the way they want it too so they can have a moan up.
That is exactly where you are coming from. Once again you construct an argument of opinion that conveniently ignore the facts. To separate the two, the transfer market is the business side of football, but the trouble is the values attributed to players are based on their perceived abilities. That perception is based on opinions and to that extent your argument holds up but where it fails completely is to ignore where Spurs stand in the leagues and the cups. Your definition of success is winning so second or third is seen as a failure. In the real world that mean that only Man City succeeded and everyone else failed and on that basis football is a waste of time for nearly all fans. Perhaps it is but it should be enjoyable. If you are dissatisfied with the team and want to do better, fair enough, all Spurs fans want their club to win, but to jump up and down and scream at one of the most successful chairmen in the clubs history rings hollow with me. We are not at the end of this journey we are at the beginning, the new stadium will generate income and interest globally and Spurs will rise further.
The simplest way to interpret it is how Poch said it: a plea to stop the nonsense of doing our business so late that new signings take until January to settle in. Could well be a factor in why Aurier and GKN flopped so badly, who knows? Bottom line is: that plea has been totally ignored, symptomatic of the way levy has approached transfers since as far back as anyone can remember. He now has a manager who has asked publicly for it to stop. It hasn't stopped. Hence my summation that the manager isn't being adequately backed.
Despite the fact that MP has stated publicly how close he and \Levy are and how happy he is with the 'project' and how he is not ready to go to the big Spanish clubs because he like where he is. Once again your opinion does not fit with that at all.
He said all of that back in June. Since then his public statements have become increasingly tense and worry-filled.
I have to agree with the majority of what CK says, this last minute Levy crap is getting not only predictable, but just isn’t working. It’s pretty obvious MP isn’t happy, and pissing off probably the best manager we’ve had in 50+ years is just plain stupid. I just hope tomorrow doesn’t bring us another £30 mill ‘bargain’
The other way to interpret it is by saying to change formation, to change tactics, to change training methods, to promote more youth - equally it could also mean to sign players earlier but the fact there's zero mention of "early transfers" in his quote means we'll never know. Aurier and GKN flopped badly. So did Paulinho, Soldado and Janssen and they were all signed early in transfer windows. I've mentioned before on here, there is zero correlation to suggest early or late signings guarantee a better chance of success. If Pochettino was that unhappy about not being backed as you seem to presume, why sign a new 5 year deal when Real Madrid were lurking?
Grealish apparently wants out of Villa (SSN). Looks like this will come down to what will be a very painful decision for the lad: follow his mind and submit a transfer request from his boyhood club, or follow his heart and stay loyal?
Poch is clearly happy with Levy. Otherwise he wouldn’t have signed a new deal. Probably shouldn’t say this but I think in some ways he’s like Wenger was and that he cares a lot about the club making good financial descions, rather than a Pep or Jose who want the best players at all costs.
Every summer seems to be a bad transfer window, but I don't think there has been one as divisive as this. This, together with the performance of the Bel/Inger-Spurs in the WC and the rush to get new WHL ready, just feels to be cooking the "perfect storm" to seriously eff the club up this season.
"If we wait until May and sell before signing, it's so difficult to bring in players that can help. This season is a very good example. We signed good players but it was so late, with no preseason and then they have to play. "You need six or seven months for the players to adapt themselves to the team, the dynamics, everything. And that is always against us. We were talking about how important it is to identify our targets and on 3 July, when we start preseason, have them here. If not, it's so difficult for them to help the team. And during the season, you're going to pay."
He does have similarities to a young Wenger but one big difference is MP does not rely on his knowledge of Argentinian football the way Wenger relied on his knowledge of French football. MP has done more for English footballers than any other manager in the league. He is also arguably better at nurturing the young talent. MP has taken the Wenger philosophy on board but uses a wider base maybe.
Must admit I never saw that but if that's the case then so be it, he obviously did want early signings and I stand corrected.
Lucas Moura is the new signing that could make a big impact this season if he does you will forget all about this window.
