Financially, it's a worse outcome. Trophy wise it's a better outcome. I just disagree that losing 8 games in the semi finals, with not all the games being 50/50 as you didn't face a "big" side each time is down to bad luck.
I'm happy for Grealish to happen...we are stuck around the 2/3 spot in the league...I just do not think he's the player to propel us to the next level. Certainly not as the sole addition to our squad. I'm sick of every season coming with a big fat excuse if we fail before a ball is kicked.
Would you not class Lucas as a quality signing in the "ones you know are good" bracket? For sure we didn't get to see much when he joined in January but he was massively unfit back then due to being kept out of the PSG side by Neymar/ Mbappe - which doesn't give a fair reflection of the quality of a player. I think we bought him in January to get his fitness up to scratch and get him accustomed to English football so that he'd be ready for 18/19, he's looked brilliant in pre-season so far. He was an important player for PSG over the years, they paid £40m for him when £40m was a crazy amount and not what gets an average Prem player these days.
I think Grealish can help us get to the next level but I also think we'll bring in 2-3 by deadline that fans will be excited by. I still 100% think I'm winning our bet.
Yeah I do...we only got him because he was cut price. I don't have an issue with Moura he's class...I just hope he's given a fair time on the pitch. I just think now and again we have to go for players that are known to the world...might get into a bit of a bidding war but it has to be done because the said player is pivotal for our young ish team to get better...instead of Levy going for a cheaper version in the hope that the player comes good and if he doesn't he's still young enough to flog at a decent price. The time is now for us to build our first team because the current players are at the height of their powers...you know your football mate and sometimes the moments pass and you got to build again which can take decades to find that perfect mix again since we are not a City or Chelsea.
Agreed. £30m was the figure the new investors instantly started bandying around. I reckon we can push it over with £5m in add-ons. The Levy-style add-ons that never actually happen like 'when he becomes the first footballer to set foot on the moon'. Keep an ear open for Bailey mate, rumours are gathering pace that we've given up on Martial and are probing for him. Can't see it happening without money from outgoings though.
You never know this set of players might just be ready to go to the next level all by themselves considering they are that bit older and experienced. I won't be going into the season hopeless and I'm totally confident in our players ability. I'm just a bit pissed off with Levy if he doesn't do his bit and hides behind the stadium build. 1.5 day to go
Don't think a bidding war would be good for us though mate, especially if it's with another top 6 side. All of them are bigger and have more dough than us so it'd make it incredibly difficult to beat them to the target. That's why I think maybe Levy's waited this long, risky as **** don't get me wrong but maybe he was banking on our rivals to have spent the majority of their dough already, allowing us to have free reign so to speak on our targets. I think it's also tough for us because the players we ideally want are really hard to get, most are either at sides who are equal too or better than us, so enticing the calibre of player we want is nigh on impossible. As I said though, I still expect 2-3 to come in (one paper was saying we want 4! Lol), one being Jack, the other two being guys that'll get fans excited.
Haha yeah definitely. That's where Danny boy excels. We actually showed an interest in Bailey right at the start of the window, so for all anyone knows, this could be one Levy's been working on for weeks/ months. Personally I don't think we'll sign him but who knows.
re Sissoko...he costs us £6m per season...not £30m. so tbh it is not an accurate summary to say we could have spent £30m on on someone else instead...so far he has cost £12m in transfer fees. These are our buys since 2013 when Bale left. wrong buys... Paulinio...lost £7m Soldado...lost £16m Fryers...even Chiriches...lost £4m Fazio...made £3m Yedlin...made £1m njie...broke even Janssen...n/a...cost £17m GNK...n/a...cost £11m Sissoko...n/a...cost £30m Llorente...n/a...cost £11m Aurier...n/a...cost £23m loss £23m ok Capoue lost £1.5m Wimmer made £13m Stamboulie made £6m Foyth n/a...cost £8m profit £17.5m good Eriksen n/a...paid £12.5m Chadli made £6m Lamela n/a...paid £25.75m Davies n/a...paid £10m Vorm n/a...paid £5m Dier n/a...paid £4m Dele n/a...paid £5m Trippier...paid £3.5m Toby ...paid £12.5 Son ...paid £22m Wanyama n/a...paid £11m Sanchez...paid £42 including add ons Gazzaniga...paid 3m moura...n/a paid £25 including add ons total cost of thos bought who are still spurs players £281m. we have also made money on loans from GNK, Janssen, Njie and Yedlin. so 12 unsuccesful signings...only Sissoko was a WTF signing imho... I do not recall anyone complaining about Soldado, Paulinio, GNK, Njie, Llorente or Aurier...I think I remember people not knowing about the others. When you look at the successes...who honestly knew Dier, Eriksen, Trippier, Davies, Son, Dele, would all be a permanent fixture in ghe first team? That lot cost a total of £56m. I make it 12 failures and 4 ok solid and 14 good or very good...doesn't seem that awful to me. I trust that if we ain't bought it is cos we do not see what we need at an affordable amount. note...I have put sissoko in at £30m so not to appear biased
I don’t understand why a club with so much talent and quality would want to waste 25m on a toe rag like Grealish who is a smarmy, snivelling, diving, moaning, cheating, whinging and overrated ‘orrible little git. My opinion of Pochetinno and Spurs has plummeted.
Anything specific? I know he was pictured passed out drunk a few years ago but tbh that doesn’t bother me, he was 19 and it was summer.
To be fair to Levy, he didn't want to sell either Modric or Bale to Real Madrid, he had no choice, they wanted to go. He then got top dollar for them. So Perez says, every time Real win a trophy Levy rings him and says 'you've done that with my players'. Clearly Levy wants to win trophys. He also didn't want to sell Berbatov, as Fergie said 'doing business with Levy is move painful than having a hip operation.' Where Levy may have problems is that he leaves such a bitter taste in everyones mouth that he does business with, they don't want to do business with him again. That can be a hindrance. Levy has always had the disadvantage of not being able to match the salaries the top clubs can offer, so it has limited his choice. This has obviously been a problem for him because its the first thing he has addressed now the new stadium is on the horizon. Is anyone saying that he should have ignored our existing players and signed new players on double the salary that our existing players are on? No, I doubt it. Levy rewards loyalty. Someone earlier mentioned that one must not put the cart before the horse. Levy is doing things in the right way, trust him. .
