This is what I don’t understand. Everyone is so well connected these days that nothing stays a secret. I refuse to believe that levy’s got some master plan going on in the background which no one has heard about, or hasn’t been reported by the press by now.

With 2 days to go, we’re not bringing in 3-4 players. There just isn’t time. We’ve gotta be so careful who we let go, too. Otherwise we’re going to be quite thin on the ground. Let’s face it, no one is coming in for Janssen of GKN on deadline day, which means we’re more at risk of losing more established squad players.

This is what grates on me...even Ndombele...you've mentioned him all summer...we all know what he would bring to the team/squad.
A few days left and we are preparing a bid <doh>

Looks set for a 'we tried but ran out of time' excuse to me.

Don't forget, we only have to buy before deadline day, or sell if it's to the prem. So buying is the priority.

We can loan out to championship or loan/sell abroad after the deadline. There are different deadlines across Europe. It's a ****ing mess. I'm pro having the deadline before the season starts but what we should have done, especially this year with the World cup, is pushed back the start of the season.

Why can't we just coordinate the start of the season and the transfer deadline across Europe?

I'd play GKN and Janssen in the League Cup. Towards the end of the season before last i thought Janssen was beginning to come good. Some players take time to adjust to a new league. I'd have given him until Christmas before loaning him out.

As I suggest a few posts back, the most likely scenario is we went in believing that if we registered an interest as his loan at Lyon was coming to an end he'd allow the loan to expire and we'd be negotiating with Amiens instead, which is exactly what we did when signing Toby from under Southampton's noses - only to discover that Lyon must have activated the option some time before and not announced it, so instead of potentially signing him for £30m from Amiens instead we're looking at sending £50m+ in Lyon's general direction

You mean like there wasn’t time to sign Llorente and Aurier on deadline day and Foyth just the day before them?

Exactly Roo..smokes n mirrors from Levy.

Watch him announce contract extensions for Eriksen and Alli once the window slams shut

Come on DH...what's that calibre of player bringing to this team if we plucked another 3 similar players out in the next few days?

Llorente and Aurier were players we were happy about at the time. They both have great pedigree, just didn’t deliver for us. As for Foyth, we all knew he was one for the future, way too early to judge.

Lol the Aurier saga had gone on for days, and foyth had gone on all summer. Hardly signings out of left field on deadline day, we’re they?!
But yes, you’re right about Llorente. Absolute panic buy on deadline day right at the death. A nice easy one for us to pull off as he was only in Swansea and it was convenient.

It’ll be the same this year. Grealish will sign, because it’s been going on for days/weeks.
But anyone on deadline day will be an “easy” option. A “jay Rodriguez” type.

Yes we did but we also know that Llorente is an understudy to Kane nothing more, nothing to elevate us and Aurier was recruited because no one else was touching him with a bargepole due to his supposed attitude etc..he's raw, not exactly ready. In other words we only make a purchase if no one else seriously interested. Why don't we ever go into a bidding war? Because Levy never has his heart set on a player...it's about the Maths. Don't want another Foyth...sick of one for the future when we can't get the present right which I think we are more than capable of doing but for one man.

Remember, we are supposed to be buying first team improvements now...this squad is running out of time before the inevitable is asked

'when should the fans expect a bit more than also rans from this squad?'

Not blaming the players or Poch, I'm blaming Levy.

You say that Spurm, but history suggests that we like to make some dosh in the window. So far we’ve made next to nothing. So I wouldn’t put it past Levy if it is sell before buy. And the reason we haven’t signed anyone is because we can’t get rid of the dross he signed!! <laugh>

When all is said and done this just points to Levy trying to be smart again and us missing out as a result of it. He really needs to stop thinking every other chairman in the world is stupid.

Here's the thing: most chairmen in the world are stupid, as evidenced by things such as Alan Pardew's decades of employment, all manner of players being allowed to run their contracts down at the cost of millions in potential transfer revenue, allowing agents to walk all over them, or running the club into colossal amounts of debt because they think "glory before profits" is a viable strategy

But the idea of not being able to sign multiple players in the final days has been proven incorrect, regardless of their locations. Lloris was done on deadline day, he was in France. VDV was in Spain. Stuff gets done.

As for who comes in this m deadline day, who knows, we’ll have to wait and see.
