I hope we retaliate with a £37m "take it or leave it" offer for Martial, which would give Expensive Stoke a tidy £1m profit on what they paid for him...

Not to mention that potentially not getting in the CL next
season due to not having him this season, would cost
Spurs far more than the 15m we would lose next summer.

Not even sure why Man Utd want Toby.
Even with their lesser defenders, the Jose-ball game still
conceded only 28 goals. To overcome Citeh, they have to do
far better at the OTHER END of the pitch.

He wants a CB who can play route one balls to Lukaku in his 9-1 formation.

United are struggling to come to terms that they aint the be all and end all of football in England anymore.

£40m for Toby is a farce in today's market...does make me wonder wtf is going on with them tbh...they played £31m for Berbatov 10 yrs ago yet in todays inflated market they want arguably the best central defender in the league for £40m?

Are they skint or close to breaking some FFP rule?

Or is it yet more media bollocks?

    It’s shambolic mate.

I know I’ve been very vocal on the matter but I’m almost in disbelief at the situation.

The contract situation is why it’s ‘only’ £40million.

Why pay £60million for a player you can get for £25million next summer?

If he is the difference in them winning or challenging city then there is every reason why they would spend what it takes.
He is 30 next year so will have less time at the top.
The reason I think we will be mad to sell for £40m is that the additional £15m could be dwarfed by us keeping him and winning a trophy/ getting top 4 again....or on the other hand not do these things.

For all he has done and he is doing...it can't really excuse the lack of activity in the transfer market in a close season which I felt was one of the most important in our lives due to where we are...got a good team , great manager and new stadium. Some of our fans think this set of players will be with us forever...Levy should have backed his manager and helped him over the line.

2.5 days left..lets see what happens

Only positive spin I've put on it too...but then I expect us to get exposed like we always do when the fatigue, wear n tear, big game pressures kick in at the business end. Not to forget our total lack of preparation for the season KO with any chance of new arrivals being bed in, gone and some of our players just returning....which should see us stutter at the beginning as usual.

On a side note I see Walker and Stones turned out for the community shield match.

    1) Paulo Gazzaniga £3m
    2) Davison Sanchez £28m plus £14m add ons
    3) Juan Foyth £9m
    4) Serge Aurier £23m
    5) Fernando Llorente £12m
    6) Moura £25m

    £100m plus £14m add ons.
These are our transfers for last season.

We made £50m on Walker, £18m on Wimmer and £16m on Bentaleb plus bits and pieces on others making a total of around £90m

    This shows that
    a) we do spend money
    b) we do spend more than we make on occassions
    and
    c) that signings are not an exact science.

    Sanchez was a big hit.

Moura looks like the real deal now he is fit.

    Gazzaniga is very good.

Foyth needs to develop but has promise.

    Aurier was a disaster imho.

    Llorente was very disappointing.

Maybe the manager is just not prepared to buy unless he is near certain that the player will improve us.

Even if we buy no one I think the past 4 seasons should earn Pochettino and Levy a lot of trust.

I would love a great signing but the likely hood of a world class signing is near zero and to be honest would rather no one than another Aurier

But we don't spend unless we sell..fact

and that's not possible with ****ty cast offs and bumper price tags yet wanting golden gooses for paupers prices. No matter how we skin this cat...for me Levy's transfer philosophy stinks.

I trust Poch I don't trust Levy's dreams for the men on the pitch. It's the business model he's in love with. We are not walking such a financial tightrope that we can't buy players.

Only fackin Tottenham eh? Top 3 finishes...talking about our players being this n that...yet we have to find indirect excuses for Levy being more interested in cheese than players this summer. Next seasons excuse will be that this team is only settling into its new home, guaranteed.

and there are players out there...we know United wanted Kovacic(I think that's his name) a player we could do with...because he told them to **** off..we don't even get told that because no one is even looking anywhere. Is our club so water tight that no transfer talk gets through? Plus what about the selling club? They don't even leak any transfer talk between us and them? It's because Levy hasnt even put his quid into the trolley..never mind gone shopping.

Apparantly, we've pretty much signed him on loan.

...yes, really, as L'Equipe are reporting that we're preparing a last-ditch bid to bring him in no matter the cost. Raise your hands if you think "the cost" involves GKN or Sissoko heading the other way.

    Or?

    Just take them both.

Although, if i'm honest, i'm kinda over signing people from Ligue 1. We've not done very well at it other than Hugo
