It’s not the games themselves it’s the fact that they’re all still in full training for the period that they would normally be on holiday and just keeping themselves ‘ticking over’ in terms of fitness. Every player is different though and it’ll impact some more than others, but it usually seems to take effect as the season draws on.
Meh, and most of them got an extended break afterwards when others were training instead. You're clutching at straws.
I’m not clutching at anything, I’m saying what regularly happens in the season after an international summer.
And so won’t be hoot full match fitness yet and a few weeks behind players who didn’t take part at WC. Be interesting to see how these first 5 games pan out. If city win all 5 then it’s game over.
What usually happens after a WC year is a poorer start to the season because some teams don't have their first XI out for the first few games. Claiming it will happen mid-season can't be down to WC fatigue or whatever you want to call it. By mid season there's all sorts of reasons why a team may face a slump - fixture pile up if bad winter, excessive cup games etc. etc.
That’s just poor planning then/squad management. Be interesting to see if players who did well at the World Cup have a drop off at any point
Players not back playing because of WC is neither poor planning nor poor squad management. All players have 'drop offs' regardless of WC action or none. Can't think of any outstanding players who are outstanding for the whole season. Lovren was arguably our best player at WC [new signings excluded] - so we'll see .... he's rarely on so may be difficult to see if he drops off though.
klopp was really careful last year with resting guys before Christmas. I expect to see one of front 3 rested almost every game in the run up to the festivities.
You don't see us getting past the cl 6 games then really rotating the side if sturridge and shaqiri are fit? Mane, firmino and salah cannot play every game. Same in midfield. If we have a squad we havev to use it.
